Hey everyone! 👋 As a 38-year-old male currently working as a restaurant supervisor, I’m looking to switch careers and explore new opportunities that can offer a decent pay without requiring a degree. I have experience in customer service, stock management, Excel, multilingual skills, and some creative abilities like graphic design and video editing.
I’m curious, what professions do you think would be a good fit for someone with my skillset in 2024/2025 that are not oversaturated? 🤔 Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Let’s brainstorm together for some fresh ideas. Thanks in advance! 🌟
One potential option I’m considering is exploring roles in supply chain management or procurement, where your experience in stock management and relationship with suppliers could be valuable. It’s a field that offers competitive salaries and growth opportunities, and your multilingual skills could be a huge asset in a globalized industry. Definitely something worth looking into! 🌐
Do you do hiring, firing and/or managing staff? Shift scheduling? How about managing events?
You might look into coordinating events/catering at a decent hotel, or work at one of your suppliers (sales/accounts management/warehousing).
Apply to your local labourers union and pick up a trade
Do you have kids? Sales or CRE brokerage would be best pivot but income is going to take a hit til you start rolling.
Luxury Apartment management
Just fkin kill urself with alcohol , it matters not. What are you pursuing tho? You will live super short , why do you need to excel? For who ? We don’t remember anybody, pictures are useless
If you know a bit of graphic design, you could learn AutoCAD and get into CAD work. It’s a great career, pays well, very in demand especially in engineering world, and fairly easy to get into. Couple semesters of community college, or do some of the online training programs out there.
If you mean to leave the industry, you’ll have to start at entry level in a new industry and that comes with entry-level pay. Consider pivoting within your existing industry toward roles that are not customer-facing. Leverage your years of knowledge in the industry- work your career ecosystem.
I hope that gives you some ideas. Good luck
I’m 38. If I was gonna change careers I’d look for a sales job or head down to the local union hall and try to score an apprenticeship. I know a ton of guys my age who have gone down to the union hall to sign up for a plumbing or electrical apprenticeship since 2020 and they all say their bosses are so hungry for new hires.

I don’t see CAD people as the future unfortunately. In a few years, it will be AI generated… and saying it is an exciting career path is an overstatement, as it is usually not linked to any decisions. You must apply what people tell you to apply in the drawings — as an young architect, I can’t wait to do something else than drawing 10 hours on a CAD program
