#ThingsToRegisterASalvagedTitleVehicle
######VIN Verification
Before registering a salvaged title vehicle, you will need to have a VIN verification done. This is typically done at the DMV, where a person will inspect the VIN sticker located under the hood, at the driver side door, and on the back of the car. Make sure all stickers are intact and the VIN matches the information on the car.
######Brake and Lights Verification
Another important step is having a third party inspect the brakes and lights of the salvaged vehicle. You will need to provide proper paperwork showing that this inspection has been completed.
######Smog Check Passing
In some states, a salvaged vehicle may need to pass a smog check. Make sure the vehicle meets the necessary emissions requirements before attempting to register it.
######Paperwork for Change of Ownership
Ensure you have all the necessary paperwork for the change of ownership process. The seller should provide you with the required documentation, including details of the previous owner, the sale price, and their signature. This information is crucial for calculating the appropriate taxes.
######Salvage Title Slip
The salvage title slip will indicate the previous owner of the vehicle and the insurance company that issued the salvage title. This slip will be different from a standard pink title and should be filled out completely.
######Driver’s License
Don’t forget to bring your driver’s license to the DMV for verification purposes.
Once you have all the necessary documentation and inspections completed, head to the DMV to register your salvaged title vehicle.
It’s important to confirm whether the seller has completed these steps before purchasing a salvaged vehicle. This can streamline the registration process and make your purchase easier.
Before finalizing the purchase, be sure to thoroughly inspect the vehicle. Check the brakes, lights, exhaust, tires, and overall condition of the car. Take it for a test drive and ensure that everything is in working order.
If you have an OBD2 scanner, it can be helpful to check for any potential issues with the vehicle’s system. Make sure to familiarize yourself with reading codes if you decide to use the scanner.

Was it a shop or the CHP that did your light check? If a shop, what type of shop was it?
Yikes. I wouldn’t take a chance on a salvage title. But that’s just me.
