As somebody a little bit older than you who never went down the route of going to uni after college and now quitting my decent pay job to study programming in my spare time I would say stick that shizzle out bro! Quickest way to become part of the 1% is to learn programming. 99% of us are consumers, if you can just be bothered to learn what you already know, you’re 10 steps ahead of the majority of society imo.
