Have you ever thought about advancing in your career without having to become a people manager? 🤔 It’s a common misconception that the only way to move up is by managing others. But fear not, there are plenty of opportunities for career growth that don’t involve managing a team!
Here are some high-upward mobility careers that focus on expertise and impactful projects:
– Data Scientist: Analyzing data and making strategic decisions based on findings can lead to senior positions without managing a team. 📊
– Software Developer: Advancing to more complex projects and becoming a tech lead can provide upward mobility without managing people. 💻
– Financial Analyst: Rising through the ranks by becoming an expert in financial analysis and decision-making. 💰
– Marketing Strategist: Progressing by leading key campaigns and demonstrating expertise in the field. 📈
So, next time you’re thinking about moving up in your career, remember that managing people isn’t the only path to success. Focus on honing your skills, taking on challenging projects, and showcasing your expertise to climb the career ladder in a non-managerial role! What other careers can you think of with high upward mobility without becoming a people manager? Let’s discuss! 💬
Trading
If you mean salary, trading/ revenue generating roles that your paid based on revenue generate. Otherwise you have to become people manager. Most people I’ve found that ended up avoiding managing people, are generally people who become independent consultants and live on contracts. But in order to do that, you have to have a name and be able to actually secure contracts.
Some areas of Trading, Quant, some CS roles. Even still if you truly never want to manage people it will continue to get harder as you advance.
I think very technical jobs in every field can get very well paid regardless of being an analyst and not having a management position but requires domain expertise and something technical like software engineers that they are expert in their area but avoid lead positions and they’re still very well paid.
Avoid the back office, senior client facing roles typically have less people management than senior back office roles.
