The idea that “I want to be my own boss and escape the rat race” somehow means less hours is a joke. Having free time while building a reputation and business is also a joke.
Adding more developers to a project doesn’t reduce development time.
The fact that most people donโt realize airline pilots do all their airline training in a simulator. Then the first that they actually fly that plane in person they have oblivious passengers in the back. Freaks some people out when they know but the training is intense and the simulators they use are top notch. Just a weird thing that nobody ever thinks about.
3d printers don’t magically make parts, you have to design it, slice it, and have knowledge of the medium and its limitations- this expertise is taken for granted and no one wants to pay for the time because the “machine builds it for you”. What ever is printed then needs to be cleaned assembled, also taking labor. While I build this cost into my products, custom jobs tend to be not worth the time involved.
The internet is just a fancy interface laid over a database.
