🤯 What’s something you wish the internet would stop clutching their pearls about? 🤯
In today’s digital age, it seems like there’s always something that people are getting outraged about on the internet. From cancel culture to online shaming, it’s easy to get caught up in the chaos and lose sight of what really matters. So, what are some things that we should all stop clutching our pearls about? Let’s dive in and explore some of the most common issues that trigger internet outrage and why we should all take a step back and reevaluate our reactions.
#1: Cancel Culture: Is it really necessary?
In recent years, cancel culture has become a hot topic of debate on the internet. From calling out celebrities for past mistakes to boycotting companies for controversial statements, cancel culture has taken on a life of its own. But is it really necessary?
– Cancel culture can have severe consequences for individuals and businesses, often leading to public humiliation and financial loss.
– While holding people accountable for their actions is important, cancel culture can sometimes go too far and result in mob mentality.
– Instead of immediately jumping on the cancel bandwagon, we should strive to have open and respectful conversations about the issues at hand.
#2: Online Shaming: Are we going too far?
Online shaming is another phenomenon that has become all too common on the internet. Whether it’s calling out someone for their appearance or behavior, online shaming can have devastating effects on a person’s mental health and well-being.
– Online shaming can lead to cyberbullying, harassment, and even suicide in extreme cases.
– It’s essential to remember that behind every screen is a real person with feelings and emotions.
– Instead of engaging in online shaming, we should practice empathy and kindness towards others, even when we disagree with them.
#3: Outrage Culture: How to break the cycle?
Outrage culture is a perpetual cycle of anger and indignation that seems to dominate online discourse. Whether it’s over a controversial tweet or a viral video, outrage culture can quickly spiral out of control and lead to a toxic online environment.
– It’s essential to pause and reflect before reacting impulsively to something that triggers outrage.
– Social media algorithms often amplify outrage, leading to a never-ending cycle of anger and division.
– By taking a step back and considering different perspectives, we can break the cycle of outrage and foster more meaningful interactions online.
#4: Clickbait Headlines: How to spot them?
Clickbait headlines are designed to grab your attention and entice you to click on a link or article. While clickbait can be an effective marketing technique, it can also be misleading and deceptive.
– Look out for sensationalist language, exaggerated claims, and overly dramatic headlines.
– Check multiple sources before sharing or reacting to a sensational headline.
– By being mindful of clickbait tactics, we can avoid falling into the trap of spreading misinformation and contributing to online outrage.
#5: Media Bias: Fact-checking and critical thinking
Media bias is a prevalent issue in today’s fast-paced news cycle. With competing narratives and agendas at play, it can be challenging to discern the truth from fiction.
– Always fact-check information before sharing it on social media or with others.
– Be critical of sources that exhibit bias or a clear agenda.
– By staying informed and practicing critical thinking, we can avoid falling prey to misinformation and contributing to online outrage.
In conclusion, while it’s easy to get caught up in the chaos of online outrage, it’s essential to pause, reflect, and consider the consequences of our actions. By taking a more mindful approach to our online interactions and conversations, we can help create a more positive and empathetic digital landscape. Let’s all do our part to stop clutching our pearls and focus on what truly matters in the grand scheme of things.
Remember, the internet may be vast and anonymous, but our words and actions still have real-world consequences. Let’s strive to be kind, respectful, and empathetic in all of our online interactions. Together, we can create a more understanding and compassionate digital community. #StopTheOutrage #SpreadKindness #OnlineEmpathy

Every little fucking thing. Censorship is really, really, really over the top nowadays. I wish we could go back to the old internet before it became this mainstream censored pussy shit. We’re down to the point where content creators have to say dumbass shit like “unalived” or else they get in trouble. You gotta pussyfoot around every little fucking thing or someone might get offended. I want the old wild west internet back.
The ghost of pasta politics
Calling anyone with *slightly* right-wing beliefs a fascist is just loudly proclaiming that you have no clue what the word even means
It’s got to be people’s emotions and social media’s ability to polarize and weaponize them.
There was a story, I think it was about Boston bombing.
Research has shown that people that were on that very scene, after 60 minutes, had calmed down – and the people reacting to the news coverage, you guessed it, had a much worse emotional response.
Just think about the effect it has on your everyday life. You think about your goals, your future, your plans…And you just roll up your TV.
You can’t stop thinking about it. the next 5 days, it’s like poison to your brain.
Crazy.
Now imagine the people that watch it 24/7.
And the saddest part about it is the fact that media makes money off of that.
Furries. I’m not a furry, but the first time I met a furry and had a conversation I was just like “oh, you just like animal costumes. I cosplay human characters so why is that weird.”
Teenagers being edgelords. Like, we get it. You’re sweating day and night trying to trash your organs with drugs and alcohol while throwing away all beauties of life by messing up yours and any chance you have at a better one just to pass in middle school/highschool with “hood baddie vibes”.
Theres a huge push against age difference in relationships. If you’re both adults, it’s none of my business what you do.
Female nudity.
What someone identifies as, it doesn’t affect you in any way, why care?
Blaming the internet for things that a hundred years ago were blamed on something else.
Nudity and swearing.
Swearing and language self censorship in particular is a new thing that seemed to start with TikTok, but it’s honestly awful. Especially the self censorship because it makes it impossible for people to blacklist certain words that might be triggering for them.
As for nudity, I mean more along the lines of breasts and nipples. I mean how fucking prudish do you have to be?? Everyone, and I mean everyone, grew up seeing breasts and it wasn’t sexual. But at some point it suddenly becomes ONLY sexual? Come on.
There’s a specific subset of Old White Man who loves to blame Trudeau for everything that has ever gone wrong in their life, and everything that might go wrong in the future. It’s very much the Canadian version of “thanks Obama 🙄” and I’m so over it!! Yes!! The man sucks shit!! But he’s not the reason your wife left you!!!
influencers not publicly having opinions on world events. i couldn’t possibly care less that x influencer hasn’t publicly come out against genocide
That the world is filled with nothing but evil.
The Palestine ordeal.
It’s not that I don’t think it’s an awful thing or anything, but I genuinely can’t see a single McDonald’s or Starbucks ad or see someone buying food from either places without seeing 30 million comments that are like “BOYCOTT THESE COMPANIES BECAUSE THEY SUPPORT ISRAEL!!!”
I’ve also seen some poor YouTubers get absolutely slandered because they took a cute picture of a new drink that they got from Starbucks or something.
It’s almost suffocating, besides I doubt any of these people who are saying all this stuff actually care about it at all.
Their feelings.
Everything isn’t offensive and/or about you.
People get really irritated when someone speaks in an accent different to their native accent. It might be voluntary/involuntary depending on circumstances and it might seem fake but I think its annoying how people die on this particular hill
Trans people.
the appearance of several Olympians. People are furious because Gabby Douglas’ hair isn’t styled correctly, like holy crap. or the peculiar appearance of Katie Ledecky. Jesus people, what accomplishments have you made? These folks have gold medals.
Celebrity gossip
Fictional content. Drawings are not real, they dont have feelings or memories or consciousness and it is really weird that people online are acting like they do.
Influencers
The downspiral some get in due to algorithm
Blaming the younger generation for ills that your own generation was also blamed for, and the generation before you, and the one before that etc. all the way back to fucking protozoa. These issues were always around. The younger generation may have something to do with those but so do older & historic generations. Can’t blame the human condition on any one group, but it seemingly is and was always popular to do so.
OF creators.
I literally don’t understand why men get so triggered by them, they’re just earning money and benefiting off a society that men created.
They’re happy to use Pornhub and support some CEO but so many of them harass and belittle the women who are doing the same. If you don’t want to support them, then don’t.
Sex between *consenting adults*
Honestly.
Just get over it that not everyone is the same/likes the same things.
I say live & let live and if it’s between *adults* who are consenting and are capable of consenting – fly your freak flag.
I’m pretty vanilla but I’m not going to yuck on someone’s yum just cause it ain’t my flavour.
HOWEVER – the important part of that was the words *consenting* and *adults*
If either of those two caveats isn’t followed I say rain down hell.
young people and new music artists and new slang existing. it’s particularly egregious on this website. I also get tired of young millennials acting like they’re in their graves because they don’t know one piece of pop culture or acting like people making silly rap music is the decline of western civilization or something
Not everyone in an age gap relationship is groomed. Also, words like gaslight, groom, influence, and abuse have lost a significant amount of their meaning.
Sites that host creator content banning adult content. YouTube, Twitter, Tumblr, PayPal… Include a thing saying you have to have an account to view, and then make it so you have to affirm you’re above 18 (or whatever age you like) to view it. Boom, you’re absolved all responsibility, and if some 12 year old gets traumatized by seeing porn it’s their own damn fault for lying.
Using words like “unalive.” I find it incredibly demeaning to the situation just for a fucking algorithm. I had someone tell me a week ago that they had to call out of work because they were on an “s word” watch and I was like what the fuck?
If you have someone in your life suffering so badly they’re considering killing themselves please treat the situation seriously with serious language.
Celebrities having opinions. And what those opinions are.
AI stealing jobs. Technology comes and goes, jobs change, the workforce adapts.
Generational scapegoating. Every generation thinks the previous generations did a shit job and the next generation don’t know what they’re talking about, and every generation neglects to look at how ineffectual they themselves are at changing shit.
Shit talking other generations for issues we are all dealing with. Not everything is the boomers fault, and not everything can be blamed on Gen Z
Looking for meaning in stuff when there isn’t any. Sometimes, a picture is just a picture.
Fat people being happy.
Other people’s genitalia … like seriously … let people be what they want to be. Unless it’s directly affecting your genitalia, you don’t get a say.
Age differences in relationships between consenting adults.
Yes, power differentials can lead to abusive situations and we should make sure that resources exist to help people escape such situations.
BUT
As long as everybody involves consents without coercion, consenting adults can have whatever relationships they like with other consenting adults, and it’s nobody else’s business.
Furthermore, I think pearl-clutching about age gaps is often just a roundabout way of infantilizing adults (usually adult women).
