1. Unique Storytelling: Undertale revolutionized storytelling in video games by allowing players to interact with the world and characters in a way that directly affected the narrative. The game introduced the concept of non-violent gameplay, where players could choose to spare their enemies rather than engaging in traditional combat. This innovative approach to storytelling created a deep emotional connection with the characters and their stories, making the game a memorable experience.
2. Captivating Characters: Undertale’s cast of characters is a diverse and eclectic mix of monsters, each with their own distinct personalities and motivations. From the pun-loving skeleton Sans to the determined and kind-hearted goat monster Toriel, the characters in Undertale are both endearing and memorable. The relationships and interactions with these characters throughout the game create a sense of attachment and investment that is unparalleled in the gaming world.
3. Emotional Impact: Undertale masterfully weaves themes of friendship, determination, and morality into its narrative, evoking a range of emotions from players. The game’s unexpected twists and turns keep players engaged and emotionally invested in the outcome, leading to a deeply impactful gaming experience. Undertale’s ability to evoke such strong emotions is a testament to its exceptional storytelling and character development.

One time I ended up renting this game called Devil May Cry 3 based on the cover as a teen.
Needless to say, it kickstarted a journey that drew me in and never let me go.
I orginally was part of the darksouls 2 hate train and now its my favorite, i actully think its the best of the 3. Alot of the issues people bring up either don’t really matter once you know them, or can be applied to 1 and 3.
Ace attorney: Phoenix Wright. Basically, I usually hate playing visual novels but this one was awesome, and that’s why it became one of my favorite licenses.
When I saw for the first time Ocarina of Time I didn’t liked his graphics but when I tried it I immediately understand what he game was and I really enjoed it. 🙂
Zelda become my favourite saga and Nintendo is my favourite software house!
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
I always got annoyed when it showed at Nintendo Directs because I didn’t care about it at all, but I ended up buying it because there was a little bit of buzz around it and the Nintendo Treehouse actually made it look okay.
It ended up being a top 5 GOAT for me, and introduced me to tactical RPGs and JRPGs
The Movies. There is no such a game concept like its own. Unique gameplay and management genre so far. You can’t expect 20 years old game anything but fun 2-3 hours gameplay but this is much more than that. I can’t really find an answer why no one wouldnt come out such a new gen game like this.
Elden ring – I only played it due to popular opinion as I’m not the type to play games where I want to smash the controller.
Turned out to be one of the best games I’ve ever played, put a lot of time into it on multiple playthroughs.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Bought the ultimate edition for it (on sale) mostly because it came with AC3 Remastered, didn’t expect to like it at all, now I’ve put like 600 hours into it across multiple playthroughs since I bought it.
The progression system is rewarding, the combat is a decent challenge (and it has some pretty solid boss fights), naval combat is great, lot of variety in how you can build your character, and the gameplay loop in general is satisfying. I was very disappointed when they made Valhalla and stripped out a lot of the elements that made Odyssey fun. Especially since I prefer the Norse theme over Ancient Greece, had they just copy/pasted the majority of Odysseys mechanics and gameplay then added a couple things it would’ve been my favorite AC.
PowerSlave: Exhumed – I’m not into “boomer shooters”, but this mix od shooting and metrovania make me complete it 100%
Titanfall. The fast pace combat of the fps, the freedom of movement in parkour, and giant battlemecha a genre that really hard to nail down right in practice ( should really get into armor core.)
Also dynasty warriors cause I fell in love with the heroism of the romance of the three kingdoms.
Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines
I tried it years after the release. It didn’t look like much, but I was really looking to play a new vampire game at the time, and boy did it deliver. The story, choices and world building were top notch, and the combat gameplay was decent too, especially once patched.
Spiritfarer. I thought I was going to play a relaxing, charismatic exploration/farming game with some melancholic story-telling and vibrant art-style. Man, some of the characters I had become so attached to that I truly felt their absence as I progressed the story. Each character you meet introduces you to a new part of the world or game mechanic, so when I travelled to an area or experienced an event without them, I felt a mix of sadness that I was more alone than before I met them, but pride that I had done my part in their lives. It’s like the bittersweet feeling of losing a grandparent, knowing it was going to happen eventually but unable to let go of them.
It’s such a fantastic experience and there are so many NPCs that you come to relate to and understand as you look after them on your travels. I had numerous moments where I’d be staring at the text bubbles with chills on my arms and tears in my eyes, not wanting the conversation to end.
Please check it out if you enjoy fantastic story and character interactions, immersion in the world and it’s events, and you don’t mind some slightly repetitive resource gathering from time to time. It’s all woven together really well.
More than likely Ark survival evolved for me !
The most unexpected game that became one of my all-time favorites is Stardew Valley
Bully.
Simple but great. It has a very unique feel to it and I’d actually love for Rockstar to make a sequel to it instead of GTA, but that might just be me. What I like about it is how it feels like you’re the new kid in an absolutely terrible school, but you’re not just going to let yourself be walked all over.
Jimmy, the main character, isn’t the bad guy necessarily but he’s no saint either. He’s more than willing to beat people up, do illegal activities and make others lives miserable, but if you’re on his good side he’ll treat you decently (or at least he won’t kick your ass).
The way the game is separated into different chapters that all take place during different seasons of the year is genuis. Along with each chapter also unlocking new areas on the map, this makes the gameplay never feel boring or tedious but rewarding and fun. The characters you meet may just be highly exaggerated stereotypes inspired by classic American high-school comedies, but man they’re fun. Immediately just from seeing a character and hearing their voice you know EXACTLY what they’re about and it’s always a blast.
It’s getting old at this point and is in desperate need of a remake or something to improve on the graphics and whatnot, but other than that it’s just one of the most fun games you can play imo
For me it’s the fire emblem franchise more specifically awakening and three houses, I never was a huge fan of strategy game but as a Nintendo fan I had to try them, and let say but the stories, the characters(not all sadly), the lore is simply amazing to my eyes.
Death Stranding. I was not an MGS guy and my favorite games have all been SNES RPGs for the past 20-25 years.
I impulse bought the game because I loved the song Ludens by Bring me the Horizon.
The game’s atmosphere is so bizarre and unique. It just clicks so hard with me. The gameplay seems like it wouldn’t be fun but holy fuck it is.
The music, the acting, everything about it is just so fucking cool.
I’m pretty jaded these days but DS felt so incredibly refreshing. Probably the most unique piece of media I’ve ever consumed.
10/10
Nier Automata, I thought it to be just another fast paced hack n slash game but it changed my perspective completely. It has a complex & deep story, beautiful design and a unique style. This game delivers the story in a very unique way, the characters are memorable & well written and top of that music, music is amazing in this game. Overall its a great game to play and experience.
Baldurs gate 3. I could never get into any of the other DND games. I tried 1 and 2 many times and got bored. I did beat nwn I think, but I set it to easy and used mods to let me be a dragon or something just to get the story. Outside of DND I never got into any srpg type games, I find them boring. FF is one of my favorite series and I have never played tactics more than an hour cuz I get bored. Fire emblem I get bored. I just hated having to control positioning and it seems like way more micromanaging than a turn based RPG.
Bg3 comes out and I played for 5-600 hours total and it’s probably my favorite game of all time. I love everything about it and it took awhile for me to get enough of it that I could play something else. I could still play more if I wanted, but I definitely feel like it’s time for a break. The writing, graphics, music are all top notch. The gameplay is fast and streamlined enough that I like it. I even beat honor mode a few times when I could barely beat balanced mode at the start. Doubt it will help me like other srpgs, but at least larians I’ll keep an eye on
Xcom 2 just the whole role playing aspect of strategy of your soldiers, promotions, etc makes it so fun to me
Monster Hunter: World. I’m pretty much an exclusively single player gamer who NEEDS a great story to get through a game. My other favourite games of all time are Fallout: New Vegas and the first Dark Souls. So when my friends suggested I get MHW I was hesitant. I don’t like games that are focused mostly around repetitive combat with story and world building taking a backseat.
But I don’t think any other game comes close to my hours in MHW. I love everything about it. I love the weapons, the map design, the monsters, heck even the kind of annoying characters (cough Handler cough). I’ve gone back and played almost the entire MH franchise now and I’m as deeply in love with it as others are with like Pokemon and stuff.
Outer Wilds
Monster Hunter. Got it cause my friend wouldn’t shut up about wanting me to play. I tried before but could never get into it. World fixed/changed any of the gripes I had with the last games. I’ve since gone back and played generations and am currently in the endgame of Rise Sunbreak. I’m easily over 1000 hours now with the franchise
Fe. It was such an enjoyable game.
Path of Exile.
Before I played PoE I was never too interested in aRPGs. Never played any Diablo, Divinity or anything similiar. And yet I fell in love with PoE, so far I have around 4k hours on the clock.
Probably risk of rain. I didn’t even know what a rougelike/rougelite was before I played risk of rain 2 (which was the first one I played). When I got the bundle with 1 and 2, I had an absolute ton of fun with it. Now I play returns a ton.
A Plague Tale: Innocence, i don’t play story games very often but i played this outta curiosity and tbh i loved it
earthbound for the same reason.
gow2018
Did not expect to like the game sos much and became my first platinum ever..
Prey
Guardians of the Galaxy. I thought it was going to be like that God awful avengers game. Fully expected to play 20 mins and peace out…..ya 8+ hours in and I was having a total blast. I couldn’t believe how beautiful some of the levels are. I started really liking how you had to use all 4 members in combat and to solve puzzles. It wasn’t perfect but damn it was better than i could have expected.
Pizza Tower.
Simple art, great music, easy to learn – hard to master, you can punch vegetables and shit. I was shot by a pizza rocket.
Octopath traveler 2. Still the greatest game no one will ever play.
Life is Strange – expected cringy teen drama, got unique experience.
FF7 Remake – I only knew that it was from Japan. And now Rebirth is my first preorder and reason I finally bought PS5.
