* Armored Core 6

* Titanfall 2
* Lost Judgment
* Nioh 2
* ULTRAKILL
* Yakuza Kiwami 2
* Shadow of War
The only one I am really sure on is Quake III: Team Arena for arena like shooters.
The perfect deflection system in Sekiro always felt amazing
Ace Combat 04 was the first game that took me on a journey and made me feel like a badass. It’s not even the combat itself, but the atmosphere while you’re engaging in it.
To me, Sekiro has by far the best combat mechanics of all time.
Fighting games. you wanna feel like a total badass and stroke your ego? dump 500hrs into a fighter 😂
FromSoftware has literally ruined combat for me in most games, going back to other games with moronic enemies just feels hollow to play against.
Monster Hunter has my favorite combat of any video game ever.
Devil May Cry 5, Sekiro and Elden Ring
I want to like ninja gaiden but those games are not for me I want enemies to die fast so combat isnt too long
I’m a huge fan of Sifu’s combat
I’m not well versed enough to know if it’s as original as I think, but Ghost of Tsushima has my favorite combat system for sure.
Original Batman Arkham Asylum when it first came out scratched an itch I didn’t know I had. When I was able to counter without the overhead prompts I felt like I had entered the matrix.
Both God of War 2018 and Ragnarok felt great and beating the Valkyries/Berserkers was both challenging and fun.
While there are a lot of good picks already posted, I just wanna throw my hat in for Kingdom Hearts 2. You have a lot of abilities to experiment around with. Different weapons that give unique abilities sometimes. There are 5 different temporary forms you can take that are also customizable.
What makes it one of my favorites is that every ability has a valid situational use. Every boss can be dealt with by just mashing and healing, or dealt with good preparations.
The Final Mix release of the game lets you fight more bosses as well as an extra form.
The only thing holding the game back is that the counter ability is a bit too safe and spammable.
They’re are parts of the game that for me at least became unbearable after a while, but Destiny 2’s gunplay is outstanding
Vermintide 2 has the best first person melee combat feel I’ve ever seen
Gunplay really depends on the type of game. Halo Infinite has amazing hipfire-only gunplay, Modern Warfare 2019 nails ADS gunplay (which is a shame cuz i hate everything else about CoD)
I know it won’t be a popular pick but Final Fantasy 16 probably has my favorite combat. It was addicting, I didn’t even mind the terrible side quests because I just got to fight more. It was tight, with a good amount of variation, and let me play God for a few minutes for the harder bosses and hunts.
Monster Hunter series
Kingdom Come: Deliverance
I think the monster hunter series is an honorable mention in this case! 🙂
I’m going to add one more game to the discussion from another genre; world of warcraft For an mmo they’ve redefined combat and despite everything that came out, it doesn’t click the same way. Interaction between ranged and melee classes in PvP, positioning and counters / management in boss battles ..
It’s not the best of all time, especially not in grinding quests, but it’s notable
Nobody saying Batman Arkham had good combat? Loved combat in that game
Never, no one, in all history of videogames is going to surpass, the insults fighting in monkey island.
Monster hunter series has essentially 14 games worth of combat systems jammed into one. Not to mention the great enemies.
For sheer gun combat, Destiny ruined everything else for me. Just feels solid, impactful. No annoying kickback mechanism where your aim goes all crazy (in Halo I’m strong enough to flip a tank over, but a sub-machine gun’s recoil throws my aim off? Really?)
I admittedly was playing with controller, so benefited not just from the tactile feedback, but also some auto-aim. But damn, it just felt good.
Sekiro
Monster Hunter.
Sekiro has great offensive and defensive play. Parrying, Mikiri counter and jump-stomping rewards how you’ve learnt enemy patterns, letting you effectively trounce enemies in your NG4+ playthrough simply because you got gud.
FF7 Rebirth is edging up to being one of my favourite combat systems. The strategic elements of turn based combat, different party member roles, and also the reactive nature of action combat – it might overtake my love for Sekiro soon.
In terms of turn based combat, got to say Persona 5 Royal probably has the best iteration, but only because it’s quick, snappy, visually engaging and some of the bosses also require you to master Baton Passes.
> For me it’s Ninja Gaiden 2 are the top. Best combat in any game ever imo, but it has some of the worst bosses so that hurts.
Can I assume you meant the 3D one?
Kingdom come: deliverance
