#AbandonedSixFlags #HurricaneKatrina #NewOrleans
Hey guys, did you know that after Hurricane Katrina, the Six Flags amusement park in New Orleans was left abandoned? It’s crazy to think that the park is now just a overgrown swamp with the attractions still standing as they were before the hurricane hit. 🌪️🎢
If you ever visit the area, you can still see the eerie remains of the park, like the rusted roller coasters and empty food stands. It’s like something out of a post-apocalyptic movie! 🎥
It’s a reminder of the devastating impact of natural disasters and how they can completely change a landscape. It’s also a popular spot for urban explorers and photographers looking to capture the haunting beauty of the abandoned park. 📸
Have you ever seen the abandoned Six Flags of New Orleans? What do you think of it? Let us know in the comments below! #spooky #naturetakesover
Six Flags Boogalo: The alligator chase.
I wouldn’t mind taking my kids there.
Give yer kid a live nutria. Just stick your hand in one of the holes. Dollar a play. And stop by Cottonmouth Alley. Wait, never mind, that’s everywhere.
I think there is a documentary about this isn’t there? I feel like there were corporate shenanigans at foot right?
Fuck it start up the rides and let’s goooo.
And yet. Still more entertaining than any theme park Disney managed to conjure.
I snuck in with a couple friends almost 15 years ago. It was super cool. Can’t do that anymore because of security
They built/filmed the Jurassic World park in the a abandoned parking lot… you could/can see the outline of the main streets on Google Earth
Where’s the defunctland doc??
Went there several times between 2001-2004 when it was Jazzland and then became Six Flags. Batman and the Mega Zeph were my favorites. They also had a badass virtual reality arcade, for the time, at least. There was also an air boat ride that was pretty cool to go on. Miss that place.
Just a reminder of the Bush-era economy. This park was struggling before Katrina. The 08 recession wasn’t far off and the auto industry was already spiraling by this time.
Anyone do a zombie movie there yet?
There’s some cool drone footage I believe on YouTube
Vice – abandoned
Went there once a few years before Katrina. It’s so trippy they never redeveloped.
Sounds like the start of a Scooby Doo episode to me.
[Plans are moving forward to convert the abandoned Six Flags property in New Orleans East into a bustling $500 million complex with sports fields, waterparks, hotels, restaurants and shops.](https://www.axios.com/local/new-orleans/2023/09/29/six-flags-new-orleans-redevelopment-plans)
Allegedly, plans are (slowly) going forward to [redevelop the park](https://www.nola.com/news/business/six-flags-developers-get-approval-of-master-plan/article_ceca07ae-3b99-11ee-be3d-6788354f576a.html)
I went there with friends on what turned out to be the last week it was ever opened. They’d only recently started upgrading the park with Six Flags branding. Lots of fresh artwork. Batman was an instant favorite coaster but MegaZeph was so rough – my sister had bruises on her back where it threw her against the seat. It was surreal to see the same coaster rising out of the water just a few days later.
I was there opening weekend when it opened as Jazzland. Many many years ago.
I feel like 6 flags should be forced to dismantle this. It just seems disrespecrful not just to the community but to the land itself.
Six flags was like, “Fuck this shit, we’re done” and the rest of the world was like, “Yeah, we want no part of this either”.
Yup. See it every day when I drive to work. I still have my old season passes (branded JazzLand, which was the name before Six Flags purchased it).
When I watched Closed for Storm, it kinda hit me that the place actually used to be an actual theme park. It’s been an eyesore for so long that all I’d ever think about it was the post Katrina wasteland.
It’s interesting looking at the area on google maps satellite. The neighbourhoods around it look new except all the roofs are blue tarps
This is how The Joker keeps getting safehouses.
Now six flags sucks and is stuck in the 2005 era
Can anyone please explain how they make the explosion? Like they must have something to start the combustion?
I went to Jazz Land in 2001 and still have some merch. It was a decent park.
Companies should not be allowed to just abandon land like this. The state should be allowed to force Sic Flags to disassemble the rides and clear the land.
I was hoping for some dope abandoned ‘gnarled vines overtaking building’ pics in the article. … Just some lame promos with people looking at rides..
Why are six flags not responsible for cleaning up their garbage from the area?
The before and after of New Orleans is the small scale of what the whole world is going to be due to climate change.
Then it will get worse.
I remember a lady was actually killed by a ride called Jokers jukebox
Why isn’t this considered litering?
I only see one flag
