It’s not selling me, it’s selling the opportunity.
Ive always tried to have a mindset of bringing a better opportunity to the candidate and their family, and a good addition to the TEAM for growth and balance. Hopefully you have a good company culture to represent to the candidate.
Otherwise โฆ.. less money, no upward growth, no support, no benefits?
Sir, are you interested in having me present your resume to the hiring manager or not?
I used to work in the industry I mostly recruit in and have a domino sort of connection to the industries I dabble in.
There are two people you should have in your life: a good lawyer and a recruiter. You hope to never have to call on them, but when you do they better be good. That’s why you want to keep my card.
Iโve got two ears and one mouth, so I listen twice as much as I speak. Seriously. Whatโs the role that Iโm filling? Really understand what the position does, what the leader is looking for, and the finer details (shift, comp ranges etc.)
Do some research on sourcing strategies, build good descriptions, then cast the posting. Track results, screen candidates, keep clean data, etc.
TLDR: Understand the hiring leader, understand the job, do your homework, keep clean data, and keep it friendly and candid with candidates.
