What steps should I take to transition from a helpdesk/system administrator role to a system engineer role? #careerdevelopment #systemengineer #ITexperience
Hi everyone,
I am currently working at a small biotech company, where I handle helpdesk duties and work on system administration projects. I am also involved in app development and cybersecurity tasks due to the nature of a smaller company.
After being in this role for 9 months and having a total of 2 years of IT experience, I feel like I am ready to move into a true system engineer position. I am currently pursuing a few AWS certifications, but I am uncertain about how much they will help me in this transition.
What actions should I take to secure a system engineer role? Should I consider moving to a different company to achieve this goal more quickly? I am seeking advice on where I should focus my efforts next.
Any insights or recommendations on this career path change would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any guidance you can provide!
Skilling up. That’s all. Certs aren’t skilling up.
In most cases moving up means moving to a bigger company if you are at a small one. Continue to master AWS, get those certs and apply for a AWS job.
AWS? Just got for cloud. Better job security than SysAdmin.
