Hey everyone! 👋 Let’s imagine we had the power to go back in time and tweak some of the US government’s economic policies post-WWII. Which policies would you change and why?
Some ideas to get the discussion going:
– Would you tweak the taxation system to make it more progressive?
– Perhaps you’d alter regulations on industries like banking and energy to prevent economic crises?
– Or maybe you’d focus on promoting more sustainable economic growth through investments in renewable energy and infrastructure?
Feel free to share your thoughts and reasoning behind your choices! And remember, while discussing the US since 1945, opinions about other countries and different time periods are also welcome. Let’s dive into this fascinating topic together! 🌟 #EconomicDiscussion #PolicyChange
Earlier than you said, but the Jones Act, a nickname for Section 27 of the Merchant Marine Act, is a protectionist law that requires that all vessels taking cargo from a US port directly to a US port be US made, US owned, fly the US flag, and US crewed. This makes shipping by water much more expensive in the US than it would otherwise be, having the strongest impact on areas not part of the contiguous US, such as Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, etc.
