## My Worst Moment As A Founder
As a founder, there are many high and low points in the entrepreneurial journey. From the highs of success and recognition to the lows of failure and crisis, the rollercoaster ride of being a founder is full of unexpected twists and turns. In this article, I want to share with you my worst moment as a founder and how I navigated through it, hoping that my experience can provide some valuable lessons for other entrepreneurs facing similar challenges.
### The Beginning
In 2011, the world was buzzing with the potential of mobile apps. The shift from web-focused businesses to mobile-first solutions was evident, and I found myself drawn into this exciting new space. It all started when a friend introduced me to someone who was about to embark on a journey to launch a mobile app, and that’s when my B2C startup journey began.
### B2C Success
The early days of our app were filled with promise and success. We received accolades such as the best app of the year award and secured a spot in a prestigious accelerator program. Our user base was growing organically, and our future looked bright.
### B2C Failure
However, despite our initial success, we struggled to monetize our app effectively. As our funds dwindled, we found ourselves on the brink of closure. We were unable to secure Series A funding and faced mounting debts and negative balances.
### Pivot
Just when it seemed like all hope was lost, a glimmer of opportunity emerged. A pivot to a B2B model presented itself, and we seized it with both hands. With a deadline looming, we poured all our energy into reconfiguring our app as a Whitelabel solution for a corporate client.
### B2B Success
After relentless days and nights of hard work, we managed to launch our rebranded app just in time. Despite some initial technical hiccups, the client was pleased with the outcome, and our app found a new life in the B2B market.
### Worst Day
But then came the worst day of my journey as a founder. After celebrating New Year’s Eve and waking up to a slew of missed calls and messages, I was hit with a devastating blow. Our server had been hacked, and all our data was encrypted, leaving us in a state of utter paralysis. The client, who had staked their reputation on our app, was on the verge of severing ties with us if we couldn’t resolve the issue within an hour.
### Disaster
For the next 57 hours, I was glued to my chair, fueled only by water and sheer determination. The stress and anxiety were overwhelming as I grappled with the monumental task of resolving the crisis. Our lack of comprehensive backup systems and the hasty nature of our previous developments had come back to haunt us in the most brutal way.
### Aftermath
After what felt like an eternity, we finally managed to restore our server and salvage our relationship with the client. However, the toll it took on me was immeasurable. I aged overnight, lost my physical and mental well-being, and struggled with anxiety for months to come.
This experience served as a harsh lesson in the importance of disaster recovery planning, the need for robust backup systems, and the perils of moving too fast without adequate safeguards in place.
In conclusion, my worst moment as a founder was a painful reminder of the fragility of success in the startup world. It underscored the vital importance of resilience, adaptability, and foresight in navigating through the tumultuous waters of entrepreneurship. While it was an excruciating experience, it also imparted invaluable lessons that have shaped my approach to business ever since.
Even in the face of the worst setbacks, I emerged stronger and wiser, and that, in essence, is the spirit of every resilient founder determined to weather the storms that come their way.
So, if you’re a fellow founder grappling with similar challenges, remember – you’re not alone, and every obstacle is an opportunity for growth.
Stay resilient, stay adaptable, and always be prepared for the unexpected in this rollercoaster ride called entrepreneurship. Your worst moments can become your greatest lessons in the end.
Reads like a thriller.
You have a good writing skills
Worth it?
Always have backups
and now?
I never read a post this long and you had me hooked
And then..?
damn write a book
Hey for what it’s worth, I work as a therapist and coach for entrepreneurs, high performers, and leaders… That’s a trauma. And there are ways that infests your nervous system (like the reaction to new notifications and texts). And there are also ways to heal it (look into EMDR). Happy to help if I can!
Okβ¦ Now tell us the name of your magic Appβ¦ π
I feel your pain. Startup life is hard, and only when you leave a piece of you on the floor have you had the true experience.
Yes Entrepreneurship is key until something big goes wrong. It can turn to hell in a hurry.
What happened to the business?
Just whining
nice.
Jesus this is so obviously written by a paid copy writer itβs painful
Can you share how this happened without risking anything in your business?
Excellent writing, really a thriller
I too understand this but at same time it is fun
I like that it’s written like this, very easy to read. Hope you’re well.
This is wild, do you have another story? Would love to read it!
I have had three separate times with my business that this reminded me of. It does age you, I care about my employees and Iβm proud to say we never laid off. We were able to absorb the hits and keep moving forward
Itβs bad for me though. Iβm 44 and Iβm a wreck physically, and mentally. Now I can see the light that with a few changes I can take it a little easier.
Keep plugging away!
Question. Did you really lose your hair?β¦ I try my best to work hard but sometimes I fear losing my hair to stress.
We need a part 2!
That’s why everything is serverless with versioning now.
Always laugh when my contact form comes in with a ransome demand – or else they’ll DROP TABLE.
What happened next?β
