Hey Everyone, Here’s What Happened When I Ran Ads on Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit!
Hey everyone,
A few weeks ago, I launched my product IndiePulse on Product Hunt. The launch was a success, and I found early validation for my product 😎. Encouraged by the conversion rates, I decided to venture into paid advertising. My goal was simple: keep the cost to acquire a purchase below the purchase price itself and potentially scale up to an "infinite money glitch" 🤣.
I ran ads on three platforms: Meta (Facebook and Instagram), Reddit, and Twitter (or X). Here’s a detailed breakdown of my experience and results on each platform.
Meta (Facebook + Instagram) Advertising Results
Total Spend: $219.73
Total Impressions: 125,254
Total Clicks: 1,406
Cost per Click: $0.16
Revenue: ~$175
Meta’s advertising platform provided outstanding targeting capabilities. I could track which users purchased and retarget similar audiences, making future campaigns highly efficient. 🌟
However, despite the impressive reach and targeting features, the revenue didn’t exceed my total spend.
Reddit Advertising Results
Total Spend: $208.04
Total Impressions: 236,514
Total Clicks: 2,279
Cost per Click: $0.10
Revenue: ~$200
Reddit surprised me with the best cost per click (CPC) among all platforms. The targeting offered through subreddit selection was solid for my niche audience. The platform’s functionality is improving significantly, with many new features on the horizon post-IPO. 📈
Though the revenue still fell short of the total spend, the user engagement was promising.
Twitter (X) Advertising Results
Total Spend: $156.03
Total Impressions: 152,237
Total Clicks: 836
Cost per Click: $0.14
Revenue: ~$115
Twitter’s ad platform presented several challenges. To run ads, I was required to purchase X Premium and display the blue checkmark, which added additional costs and constraints. The identity verification process was slow, taking over a week with no real human support. 🐦
Despite these hurdles, the platform had similar CPC, but the overall experience was the least favorable.
Analyzing My Ad Performance
The cost per click was quite consistent across all platforms, likely because my niche target audience was similar everywhere. Meta provided the best targeting capabilities, but it was also the most expensive.
On the other hand, Reddit offered a pleasant advertising experience with the lowest CPC, making it intriguing for future campaigns. Twitter, despite being challenging to navigate, showed a reasonable CPC but didn’t convert well into revenue.
Next Steps: Improving Ad Performance
Given my low CPC, the initial value proposition of IndiePulse is strong. However, it seems I have exhausted the early adopters who are willing to purchase on the first visit. My focus now is to:
- Scale up the audience reach 🎯.
- Implement multiple touchpoints for enhanced engagement.
- Develop a successful drip email campaign to increase the average value per ad.
Email marketing is now my priority, and I hope that by providing value through repeated touchpoints, I can turn my ad campaigns profitable. 📧
Stay tuned for future updates on this journey! Back to work… 👨💻
prob need to run longer time and swap creatives then test more.
