Ever wonder what would happen if capitalism failed? 🤔 As someone whose skills are tied to a capitalistic environment, it’s a thought that can be a bit scary. But hey, who knows what the future holds, right? Here are a few ideas on what we could potentially do if capitalism did take a nosedive:
– Embrace a new economic system: While this may seem far-fetched, it’s always good to have an open mind and explore other economic systems that could potentially be more sustainable. Who knows, maybe there’s a better alternative out there waiting to be discovered!
– Diversify our skill set: Instead of relying solely on skills that are valuable in a capitalist society, why not broaden our horizons and learn new skills that could be useful in any type of economic system? This way, we can adapt to whatever comes our way.
– Support and advocate for change: If capitalism is failing, it’s important to be a part of the conversation and push for changes that benefit everyone, not just a select few. By being actively engaged in the discussion, we can help shape a more equitable future for all.
While the thought of capitalism failing may seem daunting, it’s important to remember that change is inevitable. By being prepared, open-minded, and proactive, we can navigate whatever comes our way with confidence and resilience. So, what are your thoughts on this? How do you think we could adapt if capitalism did fail? Let’s discuss! 👩💼👨💼💬
The vast majority of the world is fucked if the service based economy fails OP
Plus, socialists still need financial professionals if you want to take it that deep.
Better make your money now. If the world goes to shit I’m taking my money to Mexico or Thailand and live an upper class life.
Can you do math? Can you build models? Can you do data analysis?
Remove the actual skills from financial context, and you’ll realize they’re useful elsewhere too. Just need a little tweaking to adapt. Even in a hypothetical world with no financial markets, there will still be a need for analytical professionals.
Unless you really envision a “return to monke” future. Maybe pick up gardening.
The idea that you think all need for analysis will go out the window in a post-capitalism world tells you everything you need to know about capitalism and it’s alternatives.
Capitalism is an allocation process. That process does result in a set of environmental states. We do not have a capitalist environment. We have a neoliberal one at best. Probably better to ask what you’re going to do when the world state changes back to a more capitalist mode.
Administrators would prob be even more needed under some commie society as opposed to capitalistic one.
Now that you no longer have price signals for value and distribution, you’d need more of us tbh
The same target schools will be suppling people to neo-Maoist management academies instead of investment banks.
Everything capitalism does can be done in literally any other system, it does not mean it will be painless though. Many jobs might be lost when society rebalances itself, and a lot also depends of the type of system we use as replacement. Most jobs will need to be done anyway, even some strictly capitalist oriented ones can be converted to a certain degree.
I believe in capitalism, but I feel we are at the point where the cons of capitalism are being exposed. Companies are squeezing the shit out of employees and business and charging record high prices. You could definitely blame inflation but then why are companies still hitting record high profit? Prices are completely out of control. Our future seems doomed.

Command style socialist economies would have central planning bureaus which would require skills very similar to finance
We’re gonna go thru some pain in the near to mid future because clearly our trajectory is non sustainable. However even if capitalistic society completely collapsed, there is still a need for all of the above. Do you think there are no business men in communist China? Nobody that analyzes data, no accountants, nobody who looks at excel all day? Of course there are. They’re just more on the government’s tit.
Capitalism will never die. We literally need more but we have our youth wasting time on tiktok and hinge.
I would play more golf?
The recording, accounting, valuation and transaction of goods and services and the assessment of risk of such investments over time will never stop regardless of system in place. The industry would look different but not end. Even in communism or any ‘ism’ there would be a need to appropriately account, transact, value and allocate to the highest effective utilization.
I’m sure there was some Sumerian that had similar existential thoughts while etching out cuneiform tablets accounting for goods and services
The country would fail.
crime. we would do more crime.
We will mostly likely just become beurocrats making sure the means of production and central economy runs as smoothly as a central economy can run.
If capitalism fails we’re all screwed. Life will revert to what it was for centuries. A tiny percentage of the population will be wealthy and everyone else will live a terrible life.
Edit to add: Non one in America or the west broadly lives a terrible life. Pre-capitalist systems, most people lived a subsistence life.
It’s easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism
Homie I can still do drywall and build things with my hands using wood or steel. My body is just beat to hell from a well spent youth. Sometimes I think about going into the trades, but I’ve been at this for 16 years. It’s what I know.
Too many wealthy influential people will guarantee their cash flow continues.
Not even doctors would survive that scenario. If our system fails, you’d better have stockpiled ammo and non-perishables. Even then we’re all fucked.
Depends on what type of collapse and what scenario. Occupy Wall Street turned communist takeover (think ussr / Cambodia type of societal collapse) the financial/managerial class would be the first to go to the guillotine and blamed for the excesses of late stage capitalism. Say it’s more of a Syria or Libya context then we’d take a a few year gap to be conscripted to fight/survive in whichever entities territory we live in. Say a fall of the French Republic under Charles de Gaul post the Algerian war then I’m not sure how much would change in the scheme of a year scenario, the interruption would be delegated to the capital and the policial arena not even regarding an economic collapse which would encompass all these scenarios. Any collapse of the stability of the US political system and the dollars economic integration in every world economy would lead to at a minimum a decade long world depression and a geopolitical situation much like the mutli polar world we saw post the reformation in Europe. Finance will still be needed but what and how is such a loaded question, curious what others think.
There is a good chance of landing in a concentration camp, if history is a guide. Trump has said he wants to mandate military service for all public school graduates. It depends on how accommodating finance is to Trump. Democracy is a participation sport. If you don’t participate, you might be the victim.
