#ColdCalls #SellingMyHouse #RealEstateSpam
Hey there! Have you ever found yourself wondering, "Why do I keep getting bombarded with cold calls to sell my house?" 📞🏠 If you’re anything like me, you probably get these calls from what seem like random numbers, and they’re relentless!
Here are a few things to consider:
-
Spoofing Phone Numbers: These callers often use technology to disguise their real phone numbers, which makes it tough to identify who they are. It can be super frustrating when you have to tell them three times that you’re not selling—like, can’t they take a hint? 🤦♂️
-
The Financial Payoff: So, what’s driving these folks? Typically, they’re looking for potential sellers who may not have thought about selling their home yet. They’re banking on the idea that if they reach enough people, someone will bite. The more leads they generate, the more commissions they could earn if a sale goes through. It often feels like they’re casting a wide net and hoping for the best.
- Impact on Your Day: These calls can be incredibly annoying, disrupting your peace and wasting your time. And if they keep calling, it can feel like you can’t escape it!
Now, what can we do about this? Here are a few possible solutions:
-
Register with the National Do Not Call Registry: This might reduce the number of unsolicited calls you receive. Just a few minutes online could save you a lot of stress!
-
Use Call-Blocking Apps: There are several apps out there that can help block unwanted calls, making your phone experience much quieter. 📱💤
- Stay Informed: Sharing your experience can help others become aware of these tactics. Let’s open the dialogue—what are your top tips for dealing with cold calls?
If you’ve ever dealt with these cold calls, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Have you found any tricks that work for you? Or do you have any funny stories to share? Let’s chat about it! 😊
Referrals. Someone like me would pay like $50 for a good tip on a guy selling the house and maybe more if it pulls through.
I just always give them an absurdly high price and they hang up on me. My goal is to waste some of their time.
This is just the nature of marketing in 2024. I get the same shit. Several times a week I get random callers with interesting accents asking if I own property.
I have taken to telling them that I own a John boat and some old paintings and then I try like hell to get them to buy. It seems to frustrate them, which pleases me.
I get these all the time, same area code, different number so I can’t block them. I just don’t answer any calls from that area code now. I think it’s some sorta scam but no idea what the scam is.
I get these pretty frequently, but about 80% of the time they ask about my parents property. Not sure how they’re getting crossed up but it makes it really easy for me to say wrong number please don’t call back. But they do.
I tell them i’ll sell for $1m (house is worth half that). I stopped getting those calls and texts.
They think they can turn it around for profit. I just say I’m not interested and hang up. I don’t even give them a chance to get in another word.
Because real estate agents/brokers are the parasites of the real estate biosphere.
I call them vultures. They usually prey on people who’s Grandma died in their house from another state so the kids can just get pennies on the dollar too still that house unseen and turn it into cash. So they don’t have to go over there themselves. They are also looking at homes that might be foreclosing and catch the owners before it gets to auction
I get a lot of cold calls to sell Jerry’s house in Columbus. I’ve never lived in Ohio.
Today’s been a four banger – home sale, car warranty, credit fraud and repair services. Only thing messing was magazine sales.
There’s been an unusually low amount of “inventory” (I. E. Houses for sale) for a few years now, so agents are getting desperate to drum up business
They call me all the time too and I don’t even own a house
I was mildly amused last time I got one of these. They said they could get me up do $400k for my house. I tried to get them to put an offer in writing, but they wouldn’t do it.
For the record? My house is a trailer so old that it can’t be legally moved except to haul it off to be scrapped. The county tells me it’s worth about $3k. It may be a bit of a shithole, but it’s *mine*, which isn’t something most people my age can say about their homes.
Because you didn’t screen and/or block them?
Seriously, just do this. Use your smartphone feature for screening calls and block the ones that are either evasive or come right out with their sales pitch.
I did this for a while. Haven’t had an unwanted call in months.
It’s the same story that’s been going on since people could knock on your door. You’ll probably see mail that asks the same thing too. If every 500 phone calls gets them one sale they’re going to make profit.
Because they are testing that the number is valid and that you’re a home owner.
Your number will then be sold as part of a data profile that shows you own a home and answer spam calls.
I always tell them thank god they called that I’ve been trying to sell the house but after the squatters and infestation I’ve had no luck
Usually gets them to hang up
I started answering the phone “<major chain pizza <insert town> stock room” so like “Domino’s pizza Omaha stock room”
I have gotten a lot less calls after I started
I tell them a reasonable price and play the haggle game with them. Waste as much time as possible but not making it obvious. When they think they are about to cash on a great deal, I cuss them out. Most of the time they hang up but sometimes they cuss me out too.
I always get these about my old house, not my current one. Like I moved out of that house 4 years ago now and I still get calls about it.
My FIL got a call a few weeks back about selling his property, even though he’s never put it up for sale (and never will). He threw out like $500k just to get them to hang up and they said okay lol. He said he’s still not interested and hung up lmao.
I got a letter at some point about buying my dad’s house, which I did not own, shortly after he died. Wish I’d had the strength at the time to call and rip them a new asshole about preying on grieving families during a vulnerable time when they could be talked into regrettable major financial decisions.
Why do I get so many cold calls to sell my house when I don’t own one?
There is a housing shortage in America. There’s also alot of people getting into investing. They may have interest in the fact that you have owned it for awhile, inherited it or if it needs repairs. I used to work in investment home purchasing. Didn’t cold call too much but I know alot of people that do.
I know someone who works as the person that spam calls you. Basically, they’re taking data constantly on what brings them sales leads. They’re spam calling people because as it turns out, it’s been shown to be more effective than a single phone call.
Houses are such a high ticket item that even if the spam calls don’t work on most people, it really matters for the few people it does work on.
In my neighborhood two new transit stops have opened, complete with connecting bus, and the rail line has been extended. The whole area will be subject to massive, more dense, development. So property just became much more valuable than it was last year. Any big plans for your neighborhood, public or private?
