Hey everyone! 💬
I’ve been in a bit of a pickle with my new job. I mean, can you believe it? I’ve only been there for **three weeks** and I’m already feeling like it’s not the right fit for me. It’s so intense that I find myself crying both before and after my shifts! 😢
I know quitting after such a short time might seem dramatic, and it makes me feel really guilty. But here’s the thing: I have another job that I love, and I don’t feel this way there. So, I can’t help but wonder if anyone else has been in this tough situation.
**Here’s why I’m feeling so overwhelmed:**
- **Gossip Central:** My manager seems more interested in gossiping about the other staff than actually leading the team. It’s hard not to feel paranoid about what he might be saying about me when I’m not around!
- **The Chef’s Rage:** The chef is a whole other story. He’s known for his nasty temper, and honestly, it feels like he enjoys yelling at us for every tiny mistake. For example, if we forget to note ‘no pickles’ on someone’s order, he flips out. I cried today just because I can’t handle that kind of stress, especially since the team is mostly teenage girls who are still in high school. 😩
So, tell me: what’s the **quickest you’ve ever quit a job**? Did you feel the same kind of guilt I’m feeling, or did you just go for it? I’d love to hear your stories and any tips on handling these kinds of situations!
Let’s chat! 💬✨
I think 2 days? It was because it was a horrible horrible place. A manager called me a moron on the first day.
3 months
3 hours
Walked out right after they trained me. There is no shame in moving on if the fit isn’t right.Â
At age 21 I got a job working the front desk and answering phones for a tiny law office in Las Vegas. It was this husband and wife team of personal injury lawyers, and they hired me — a college dropout with no legal background — on the spot when I walked in. I showed up the next morning, and there were three very sad-looking people with obvious medical ailments waiting for the office to open to ask when they’d finally be getting their money from their settlements. Pretty much everyone who called had clearly been trying to reach the two lawyers for weeks; at no point did either of them allow me to transfer a call their way. I left for my lunch break and never came back. I hope they’ve been disbarred by now.
2 days, I work for a politician and I don’t know something about it just felt very dark I did not feel comfortable with working for that politician and I quit.
I did the right thing
I took a career break and after lots of interviewing finally had an offer and accepted it. Another place made a similar offer the next day, but I kept my word to the first. Made it a week there and saw it was a giant bureaucratic, boring, probably dead end career path with admittedly golden handcuffs. I called the second place and asked if the offer was still open – it was and I took it. Been great since!
One job I left after 3 hours.
It was not the job advertised.
Another job one week 3 days…. the boss could not believe it, his jaw hit the floor as I handed him my written resignation at lunch time, I said I’d finish out the day, the fact he had no idea I was unhappy there screamed volumes.
Another Job 3 weeks – again boss couldn’t believe I was quitting and said I should stay. I literally grabbed my belongings and walked out with out finishing the day/shift.
1 week. Supervisor was an alcoholic who had lost his wife and kids due to his behavior and was now quitting drinking and a miserable, cruel, ignorant asshole. I checked him a couple of times verbally for crossing my respect boundaries and on Friday packed up my tools and resigned via email. I didn’t mention him at all.
Finished shift, but didn’t come back.
I don’t think any job is worth your mental health. I was laid off unexpectedly May 2023. I was.. fortunate to find a new role in about 3 weeks, which I started in June of 2023. Almost immediately knew I couldn’t stay long term, but I did stay and continue my job search. I got another offer and quit that job at the end of September and started my current job at the beginning of October.
I just tell myself/others, they wouldn’t hesitate to let you go or replace you. If you can quit now, do so. If you need to wait to find another job, then bear it out until you find a new role. Either way, do so without guilt.
All you have to do is tell them the position isn’t the right fit and you are resigning. It is fine. Seriously. If a manager doesn’t understand that message, they are not someone you should work for anyway.
Showed up to induction day
Turned out to be a scam center
Pretended to be interested (i needed the money)
Once day was over noped the fuck out of there
2 weeks. Worked part time at a call center during college. They gave me about 2 hours of training and a 5 inch think binder with all the prices and info I should need. I couldn’t find jack shit in it while on the phone and I basically got called out by a director for interrupting others when I asked them for some help. I quit the next day. They ended up laying everyone off and shut down the entire center a couple years later.
You can leave the job. If it’s not a good fit, it’s not a good fit.
i quit a job day and a half i was just bored and was cleaning chemical tanks for a supplement company called Nature Made
I’ve got up and left by 10 am
Abscond
I worked for four hours at a Whole Foods deli. The people at this location were super unfriendly and didn’t help me out in any way even though I was brand new. When my break rolled around I threw my apron in the trash, walked up to HR and told them “Yeah, this isn’t going to work out.” It felt great.
I tried working at a small law firm as a secretary. I worked from 8am to noon. Went to lunch and never returned.
It’s a server job. Pick another restaurant and try again.
Day 2. Sales job that was less that forthcoming about tactics.
We went to a mall and hassled shoppers to try to get them to sign up for alternate energy. My trainer was trying to train me in direct violation of the terms and conditions we had with the energy company.
I hung around for a few hours just to observe and make sure, and then was like yeah nope.
3 weeks. It was not like they advertised. I was traveling way more than expected. Lots of rules. It basically sucked.
1 week. I worked for a well known loan company that does in house collections and their practices were inhumane. They dangled money over people’s head that they knew couldn’t pay it back and harassed them for collections. I quickly made my exit.
