Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, GTA San Andreas, Mass Effect trilogy, and Batman Arkham series for me
For me, the best by far is Xenoblade Chronicles.
By far… ‘What Remains of Edith Finch’. The story and its ending blow me away.
Metal Gear
NieR Replicant and NieR Automata
Without them I would have been stuck mentally
In my personal order:
– RDR1+2 (especially 2)
– TLoU 1+2
– MGS series (MGS3, MGS4, Peacewalker, MGS2, MGS1, MGSV in this order)
– Ghost of Tsushima
– GoW and GoW: Ragnorak
– Remedy Games -> AW1, AW2, Control
– Dead Space 1+2
– Horizon Zero Dawn + Forbidden West
– LA Noire
– GTA 4
– Batman Arkham Series (new SS game is NOT canon to me)
RDR and LA Noire for sure. I remember beating LA Noire in a single sitting, I was hooked.
Tony hawk underground
It was short, but Titanfall 2 had an awesome story with some fantastic game play attached to the hip. Not as popular as some others (for good reason) but worth mentioning!
Metal Gear Solid 3 – It even still works perfectly as a stand alone game outside of the overall story arc of the wider MG series
The last of us back on ps3 and far cry 3.
Metro Exodus
I loved Fallout New Vegas and all the different ways you could explore the story depending on the choices you made.Â
The Last of Us. Its storytelling is just unforgettable
I just finished Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and was quite blown away by the quality of story telling and the attempt to depict a legitimate mental illness
RDR2 and Kingdom Come.
Deadly Premonition
outer wilds. a story so good i can’t explain anything about it without spoiling the experience. there’s nothing quite like it.
I have played some absolute greats. But honestly Ghost of Tsushima is one if the greatest stories i have ever experienced. Me and my grandfather used to watch old kurosawa films while i grew up and this just felt like i was in one. The music is stunning.
Titanfall 2 is the shit.
The Yakuza series, but unfair since it’s over like ten games now but damn are they the only games that get an emotional response from me.
The story in God of War 2018 is _very_ well made. It’s so simple, truly the epitome of idea < execution
Pillars of Eternity 1+2
Final fantasy 7 and 10 both have a strong place in my heart.
Metal gear solid 1
That is difficult to decide but here are the best ones for me:
– Red Dead Redemption 1 & 2
– The Witcher 3
– God of War series (most especially 4 & Ragnarok)
– Yakuza/Like a Dragon series (most especially Yakuza 0, Yakuza Like a Dragon, & so far, Infinite Wealth)
– Judgment & Lost Judgment
– The Last of Us
– The Mass Effect trilogy
– Ghost of Tsushima
– Horizon Zero Dawn & Horizon Forbidden West
– Cyberpunk 2077
– Final Fantasy VII & Remake
– Persona 4 Golden
– Persona 5 Royal
– Batman Arkham series (most especially City)
Portal 1&2
Half Life
Max Payne 2
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast
Warcraft 3
Kotor 2 (with the completion mod)
GTA San Andreas
San Andreas
Metal Gear Solid 3
God of War 2018
Life is Strange
A Plague Tale: Innocence + Requiem
Bioshock Series
Detroit: Become Human
Last of us. Both of them.
The walking dead game with Lee and Clementine, nothing comes close for me as far as story telling.
I want to say Last of Us, but there wasn’t much of a story, per se, and more of a journey with character development along the way….but it was sure fun.
Red Dead Redemption 2 would probably be my favorite story if it didn’t just play like GTA where the story was really just a bunch of small mission scenarios before the main “plot” moved to the next stage.
Witcher 3 was too complicated for me to keep track, mostly because I had 6023498234 missions to keep track of, and the main one got clouded by it.

When it all boils down, actually I would say the new Hogwarts Legacy so far. It is in contention to be my top story. I feel like I really am living the story and concerned with what’s going on throughout.
I also enjoyed the story of Deponia (the first one).
Here’s a few of my faves:
– Titanfall 2
– Cyberpunk 2077
– Skyrim
– Mass Effect
– Horizon Zero Dawn
– Haven
– Halo
– KOTOR 1 & 2
Going way back with this one but *Earthbound* remains one of my favorite story experiences for a video game.
Final Fantasy X, probably the best love story in gaming history. Really gets you invested in the story and how everything’s going to turn out. Like it’s so good that I’ve Heard multiple people say they didn’t care for the game play but kept playing just to see what happens with Tidus and Yuna. >!Also one of only a handful of games where you you can find people ball their eyes out from the story.!<
Biased rn cause Im playing it as we speak but Cyberpunk goes deep if you want stories. Many side missions, random characters and main story is a trip if you’re into the genre. Also Ghost oF Tsushima is top!
Mass Effect trilogy, all Rock Star and Naughty Dawg games, Nier Automata, Earthbound and Mother 2, FF6 through FF10, and Metal Gear Solid.
Persona 5 Royal. Blew me away.
* Silent Hill 2
* SOMA
* System Shock 2
* Halo: Reach
* Portal 1+2
* The Talos Principle 1+2
* Deus Ex
* Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga
* Final Fantasy X
* Breathe of Fire IV
* Cave Story
* Conker’s Bad Fur Day (is still the best-written comedy game of all time, IMO. Shame we never got sequels)
