🍽️ What “rich person foods” actually aren’t very good? 🍷
When it comes to food, there’s a perception that the more expensive it is, the better it must be. However, this isn’t always the case. Some “rich person foods” may not be as great as they are made out to be. In this article, we’ll explore a few of these overrated foods and why you might want to think twice before splurging on them.
## The Myth of Truffle Oil
Truffle oil has become a staple in many high-end restaurants and gourmet kitchens. It’s often touted as a luxurious and highly sought-after ingredient, but the reality is that truffle oil may not be as special as it seems. Here’s why:
– **Artificial Flavoring:** Many truffle oils on the market are actually made with artificial flavoring, not real truffles. This means that you’re paying a premium for a product that doesn’t deliver the authentic truffle flavor it promises.
– **Overuse:** Truffle oil is often used in excessive amounts, overwhelming the dish with its intense and artificial flavor. This can mask the natural flavors of the food it’s supposed to enhance.
## The Reality of Caviar
Caviar has long been associated with luxury and opulence, but it’s not as universally beloved as its price tag would suggest. Here are a few things to consider when it comes to caviar:
– **Acquired Taste:** The salty, fishy taste of caviar is not for everyone. Some people find it too intense and off-putting, despite its reputation as a delicacy.
– **Ethical Concerns:** Many varieties of caviar come from endangered or overfished species, leading to ethical and sustainability issues. This can put a damper on the enjoyment of caviar for conscientious consumers.
## The Downside of Foie Gras
Foie gras, a delicacy made from the liver of a fattened duck or goose, is often considered a symbol of culinary extravagance. However, there are valid reasons for reconsidering its status as a luxury food:
– **Animal Welfare:** The process of fattening the liver of ducks and geese for foie gras production is controversial and raises ethical concerns about animal welfare.
– **Health Impact:** Foie gras is extremely high in fat and cholesterol, which can be detrimental to heart health if consumed in excess. It’s not the healthiest choice for those watching their dietary intake.
## The Truth About Wagyu Beef
Wagyu beef is renowned for its exceptional marbling and melt-in-your-mouth texture. While it’s undeniably delicious, there are some factors to keep in mind when it comes to this coveted meat:
– **Price Point:** Wagyu beef comes with a hefty price tag, making it a splurge for most consumers. Its high cost may not always justify the taste and quality it offers.
– **Personal Preference:** Not everyone enjoys the rich, fatty flavor of Wagyu beef. Some may find it too intense or overpowering, especially when compared to leaner cuts of meat.
### In Conclusion
While “rich person foods” may carry a certain allure and prestige, they’re not always the best option for everyone. It’s essential to consider factors such as taste preferences, ethical concerns, and health impacts before splurging on these luxury items. Ultimately, the quality and enjoyment of food are subjective, and not all high-priced delicacies are guaranteed to be universally loved. It’s worth exploring a variety of foods to find what truly satisfies your palate, regardless of their price tag.
Truffle oil—just because it’s expensive doesn’t mean it tastes good.
Pokimane’s cookies
edible gold leaf is inert, indigestible, and has no taste or smell. It has no nutritional value and can’t improve any dish.
It isn’t even *that* expensive.
It is added to a lot of expensive dishes, often making a fairly normal dish more expensive, under the guise of adding to its “presentation”.
It is also done as a gimmick (such as wrapping a steak in gold leaf and charging hundreds for it) to sucker trashy faux-rich people in.
You literally shit gold though, which is cool.
Not a specific food as such, but whenever I have gone to a fancy and expensive restaurant, I’ve always left hungry because the portions are that small. Even though the food did taste nice, it was pointless going because I ended up stopping for a burger on the way home anyway.

Mid-end restaurants are the way to go. Nice food but big enough portions to fill you up.
Brownies purchased at Sprouts.
Caviar. I’ve tried it multiple times and couldn’t even pretend I liked it.
Abalone..
I’m ethnic Chinese and I don’t like it. The Chinese will go on and on about it and pay top dollar for it
All I know is that the damned things looks like the old timey Chinese gold and silver ingots that caused them to be over harvested to the point of near extinction
I grew up poor. Now I’m not, totally down to marriage.
Prior to money I would have told to you that rich people probably eat bland nasty food they pretend is good. I would have been wrong. On the contrary, I’ve noticed on average that the more expensive the meal the better it has tasted.
Champagne. I had the chance to try a glass of dom pérignon once (not something i’d be able to afford, just got lucky and had the opportunity lol) and when I tried it (bottle was probably like $300-ish) all I could think about was how I’ve bought other wines myself for like less than $10 that I enjoyed the taste of more than it
I always see these surveys in my feed, and caviar is always on these lists. What kind of caviar are y’all eating? Caviar is fucking awesome.
Shark fin soup is, IIRC, basically bland, tasteless, and pointless aside from being a status symbol.
Some of you just dont like sea food.
Shark fin soup
Shark fin
Shark’s fin.
It tastes like nothing. No flavor at all. Even the texture is just meh. The real flavor of Shark’s fin soup comes from scallops and abalone, those are actually very good. But shark’s fin is just trash.
Jamie Oliver’s stir fried rice
Imma say it because no one else will: filet mignon is such a boring steak!!! More affordable steaks have a much better taste and consistency
King crab legs > lobster. Bites of lobster just taste like over priced shrimp.
After reading these comments I have concluded thst most reditors just don’t really like sea food
Shark fin soup. It’s just a symbol of wealth – tastes slimy and gross. Worst part of it is the amount of sharks that are being killed for it and is pushing many species to extinction
I don’t really understand paying $200 for caviar on toast. It tastes fine. It’s not anything spectacular.
Filet mignon is the most overrated cut of meat on the cow. It has very little intramuscular fat, and fat is flavor.
I’d much rather eat a skirt steak than a filet.
But I’m a big proponent of, “Anything can be delicious if it’s cooked right.”
Fuck every restaurant that serves Caesar Salad as a giant uncut wedge of lettuce with the fixings sprinkled on top.
The nicer the restaurant, the less prepared it is.
Less one food and more good food getting fucked up with nonsense to justify pricing imo.
Mac and Cheese being the biggest victim (followed by burgers). Nobody should or wants to pay $12-$15 bucks for pasta and cheese sauce, but steak houses and “upscale” restaurants are in an arms race to dump random crap ontop of it to justify the outrageous prices.
