I don’t get how Haley and Macron get crucified for pushing back Social Security but every politician in-power is allowed to and instructed to ignore the generational housing crisis, which is going to push everyone’s retirement age back way further than a meager 2 years.
LOL…you fail to understand that’s its likely not you they are talking about. See all those folks with darker skin than you? THOSE are the ones that they want to work past 70 and die with nothing to their name.
What most people don’t realize is that when the Social Security program was initially setup, the retirement age being 65, the average life span of US workers was MUCH LESS than 65:
For the average white male, life expectancy was 61.
For the average white female, life expectancy was 65.
It was originally setup in such a way as to never really pay out, or, at the very least pay out as little as possible.
Today’s life expectancy is about 76 years *(this in actual decline because of our broken health care system, our lack of enforcement for environmental cleanliness, our lack of enforcement for consumer protection allowing products that make us sick and/or kill us on a regular basis, and lack of enforcement and continued weakening of labor rights and protections, allowing our jobs to exploit us and get away with killing us only having to pay pittances, if at all, when they kill their workers)*.
SO OBVIOUSLY the solution to problem of funding social security is to RAISE the payout date to something closer to the average life expectancy, closer to, if not beyond, 70.
Rich people don’t give a shit. They want ALL the government’s money to flow into THEIR pockets, period. Fuck the average US citizen, fuck the poor, fuck everyone else. Government money is theirs by right of being born rich. Everyone else’s money is theirs by right of being born rich.
People need to let the idea of βthe good old daysβ, go. It was an illusion. Born in US and am old enough to know that this country was never great. Change is inevitable. Let it the fuck go.
When you realize the only purpose of the political class is to protect the wealthy elite it makes much more sense.
Do you guys simply not pay attention, get all of your info from mainstream sources, or refuse to believe weβre actually just modern era human cattle?
There is a cap on Social Security . After around 162000 of earnings you don’t pay into Social Security…in case anyone is curious.
The government was long ago bought and sold to businesses and corporations, we used to have protections against this stuff but itβs so transparently corrupt since citizens united. Theres not a single politician anywhere talking about getting money out of politics. We need a political revolution.
Lol like the US is a democracy.
Theyβre targeting boomers by saying theyβll throw the younger generation under the bus to help the boomers
Increasing the retirement age is just a way to make social security less accessible. They really want to do away with it completely.
The ugly truth is they stole the money already, have been for decades, and don’t ever intend to pay it back. SS was set up so that as you work, you pay into it and with the power of compound interest and a HUGE amount of principal to invest the system would just keep running after it got set up. The first decade would be rough, but eventually it would be a money making machine to pay for itself and even have extra if things were going great!
Except, of course, that once it started working they immediately broke the piggy bank and started using it to cover shit like wars, scandals, pet projects, and lining pockets. They want you to think of SS as something “old and broken” that can’t work anymore to hide the fact that it worked fine until they stole it all.
Billion dollar bailouts and trillion dollar budgets for defense got paid out of someone’s pockets after all.
