#jobrejections #jobsearchstruggles #sundayblues #jobapplicationwoes #careerfrustrations
I recently applied for several roles on a Saturday, only to receive rejections on Sunday. It’s frustrating and seems to be a new trend. I’ve noticed recruiters claiming that AI isn’t used in recruiting and application selection due to legal reasons, but I find that to be complete bullshit. Four to five years ago, I never had issues lining up 5-10 interviews a week. Now, it feels like I’m just getting a wave of job rejections in my inbox on Sundays.
Understanding the Problem
Job rejections on a Sunday can be disheartening and demotivating. It’s essential to understand why this is happening and what factors are at play.
1. Irrational AI Filtering
- Many companies use applicant tracking systems and AI algorithms to filter through job applications quickly.
- These systems may not always be accurate and could be rejecting qualified candidates.
2. High Competition
- The job market is competitive, especially in certain industries, leading to more rejections.
Solutions to Overcome Job Rejections
While facing job rejections is tough, it’s crucial not to lose hope. Here are some practical solutions to help you navigate through this challenging phase.
1. Tailor Your Resume and Cover Letter
- Customize your resume and cover letter for each job application to match the job requirements and stand out.
2. Network and Stay Engaged
- Networking can open up new job opportunities and help you stay connected with industry professionals.
3. Develop Your Skills
- Invest in continuous learning and development to enhance your skills and stay competitive in the job market.
4. Seek Feedback
- Reach out to recruiters or hiring managers for feedback on your job applications to understand areas of improvement.
Final Thoughts
Job rejections are part of the job search process, but they should not discourage you from pursuing your career goals. Stay positive, keep improving, and remain persistent in your job search efforts. Remember, every rejection brings you closer to the right opportunity that aligns with your skills and aspirations.
Don’t let Sunday job rejections dim your spirit – keep pushing forward and staying resilient in your job search journey!
It could also be that recruiters and HR are feeling the pressure to work 7 days a week like the rest of us.
Fuckin way she goes bud
I’ve been a hiring manager for decades and there’s many a time when I’ve only had time on the weekend to review the submitted resumes in the ATS and either indicate I’d like to talk to the person or reject the person and that causes an automatic response to get sent. Nothing to do with AI at all.
Many recruiters are desperate AF for a commission and work everyday. I always picture the movie Glengarry Glen Ross, but with 25 yr old women straight out of college chatting on Slack about ATS keyword leads, between makeup tutorials on TikTok and firing off ChatGPT generated emails every 10 mins to candidates they haven’t reviewed and have no idea what they are actually qualified for, double and triple booking calls for Account Managers who then select one person to call and ghost the rest.
Ive had rejections after 10p on random days as well as weekends. Thats the norm for me.
Majority of applicant tracking systems have the option to delay emails going out to applicants with 24/48h; once the recruiter moves the application to rejected status
People can work on Sundays. Recruiters are people. I’m not sure what else there is to be confused about.
This afternoon I’m probably going to turn on some basketball and sit on the couch with my laptop to flip through some resumes and plan out my week.
HR Indians will work any day of the week, so long as you drop $2/hr in front of them.
There’s a company that had a few roles I applied to and over the last 3 weekends I’ve been getting the rejection emails in the middle of the night each Saturday. Like 1-2 am
I’m using a tracker for all my emails via a browser extension. Whenever someone opens my email, I see it. Recruiters open emails on Saturdays and Sundays as well.
