Has anyone else ever been hit with a surprise NSF fee out of nowhere? 😤 I swear, it’s like the universe is out to get us sometimes. 🌌 Why do NSF fees even exist? Just don’t let me buy something I can’t afford, right? 💸
I was just charged $48 on a NSF fee from some random PayPal transaction, and now I’m left wondering why debit cards even let us spend money we don’t have. I specifically chose a debit card to avoid getting into credit card-type debt, but now it seems like that’s not even an option. 🤔
Here are some possible solutions to prevent unnecessary NSF fees in the future:
– Set up alerts on your account to notify you when your balance is low
– Keep track of your transactions regularly to avoid overspending
– Consider switching to a prepaid debit card to limit spending to what you have loaded on the card
What do you think? How do you avoid NSF fees and keep your finances in check? Let’s share some tips and tricks to help each other out! 💡💰
If you’re looking for something that is physically impossible, that is called using cash. It is physically impossible to buy something if you don’t have the dollar bills and coins to pay for it.
Don’t blame the bank, you agreed to to the trial and payment once your free was over lol
Only people to blame is you and your gf
Because you have “preauthorized” the transaction.
Its like if you write someone a cheque, you need to make sure there is money in the account.
That said I agree the NFS fee $48 is ridiculous. Did you call your bank and explain and ask them if they could waive it for you?
Eq bank has no nsf fees. Consider that account.
I only have paypal linked to my credit card.
Be more responsible with your finances.
NSF fees exist because some bank jackass decided he wanted to make money on an “inconvenience”
One of my acquaintances in highschool times had the claim to fame that his dad came up with ATM fees between banks, how true that is I’ll never know, but his family was definitely loaded
A good chunk of the financial system depends on people overconsuming and leveraging beyond their means – from credit card interests to other loans that are bigger in size.
Institutions are happy to carry most of the risk but also feel very happy to capitalize on those who fail to meet their end of the bargain – by charging fees, interest, or even taking over the asset(s) used as collateral.
Let me guess, you are with one of the big banks. Time to change to one that doesn’t charge outrageous fees every time you turn around. Consider Wealthsimple or EQ Bank.
Fees and commissions is one of the largest income sources for banks. Consider this when you select one.
That’s 100% on you and/or your girlfriend. Time to be an adult and responsible for your mistake .
How about *you* just don’t buy things you can’t afford?
Put everything through credit cards, even visa debit cards
I just had this happen to me with Simplii and I messaged them asking for it back and they did it, so try asking them before you vent online
These fees exist to teach you to grow the fuck up.
Jesus Christ, so many people in here weirdly defensive over Canadian banks incredibly predatory fees. I work for a bank and will admit that NSF charges are bullshit.
Just call them or go in to a branch and 9/10 times they’ll reverse the fee for you (as long as you’re not regularly going into overdraft like every month or something)
banks rely on poor taxes, they love charging additional fees to people who are just scraping by.
go talk to your bank and get overdraft protection. you will avoid this in future. you can buy me a beer for 4 bucks and you still save 44 on NSF fee
lol because bank wants more money, so NSF generates extra revenue for them. They don’t care about the well-being of average Canadians, they want moneyyyyy
Only poor people pay nsf fees, so nobody cares. It’s insane to do this shit to people. I believe in the US these fees are capped and are relatively small by comparison. If this is a one off and you have a good relationship with your bank, call and request it be credited, be nice and they are likely to work with you.
“Probably some free trial left uncancelled”
Your the one that didn’t cancel and your complaining about your own mistake ?
Here’s a crazy thought … don’t spend money on stupid shit lmao
*It’s a trap!*
Call the bank they’ll most likely give it back.
