Why are so many virtual interviewers consistently late without notice?

Have you ever experienced the frustration of waiting for a virtual interview to start, only to have the interviewer be 15 minutes late without any communication? It can be incredibly stressful and anxiety-inducing, especially when you’re left staring at the waiting room screen, unsure of what to do. Let’s explore why this seems to be a common issue and how we can address it effectively.
## Reasons for Interviewer Lateness
1. Overlapping commitments
2. Lack of time management skills
3. Technical difficulties
## Impact on Candidates
– Heightened anxiety
– Unprofessional impression
– Wasted time
## Solutions for Interviewer Punctuality
– Send a reminder email the day before
– Implement start-time reminders
– Apologize and provide explanation if late
By understanding the reasons behind interviewer lateness and taking proactive measures to address it, both parties can ensure a smoother and more respectful virtual interview experience.
These sort of people have an attitude that since you need the job, you’ll wait. Responsible people would notify you or reschedule.
Once took part in a interview where I’d be meeting 3 people over the course of 3 hours in 1 hour slots (this was in-person at their office). The first interview had to be done virtually from the conference room since the interviewer was home on PTO. The 2nd person never showed up so I just sat in an empty conference room for an hour twiddling my thumbs until the 3rd person showed up in the 3rd hour.
The best part is they usually don’t even mention it much less apologize.
Somewhat unrelated interview story
I was supposed to interview at this clinic, but I didn’t realize it was a 30 minute interview because they said 15 minutes over the phone.
Anyways, I see that in the meeting details and ask if we could reschedule as it would have ran into a work meeting. The hiring manager cancels the interview and said that I need to be more interested in the job. Like what??
Sadly normal thing
For me 3 out of the last 4 interviews they have been late.
They did apologize and say previous meetings went over.
To be fair if they hired me I’d give them a pass for being late. Haha
I left an interview at trader joes because of this. I waited until 12:22 for an interview at 12 (probably didnt show up even when I left)….
I hope in the future we can feel comfortable naming and shaming. If jobs hold us accountable for being late, they should be held accountable for wasting our time.
After seven minutes late I hang up.
I had one lady tell me she didn’t know she had to let me in….. and I’m pretty sure she’s the one that got me kicked out of the rest of the process, hah.
8-10 minutes is usually when I send out a “is this still a good time to meet?” email. If after 5 more minutes there’s no reply and nobody has joined the meeting, just leave. They don’t respect you or your time as an applicant, they won’t respect you even a little as an employee.
HMs are notorious for pushing recruiting to get a job filled but also not making any time for interviews. They think it happens like magic or something, I don’t know.
