#CriminalJustice #PolygraphProblems
So, here’s the deal. I have a bachelors in Criminal Justice and I thought I was all set to conquer the world of law enforcement. But there’s just one little problem – I can’t pass a polygraph to save my life. Seriously, I failed one for a small town corrections officer job and then again for Customs and Border Protection. Both times, it was the “serious crimes” section that tripped me up. And let me tell you, I am not a liar.
I mean, what gives? The only thing I can think of is that talking about past trauma from sa and domestic violence gets my heart racing and messes with the results. It’s frustrating, to say the least. My parents are suggesting I switch career paths, my boyfriend thinks I should learn something new, but I’m just lost.
So, I turn to you, my fellow internet pals. Any advice on how to navigate this tricky situation? I’m feeling pretty stressed and down about the whole thing. Help a Criminal Justice grad out, will ya? 😉
The interviewer should ask you if certain questions bring up memories and issues like this. Your body is naturally reacting to a memory that’s adjacent to the question. Moving forward if the interviewer doesn’t ask you if certain questions might trigger a nervous system response , proactively address it in the beginning
Take meditation classes.
Get drunk or high before you take the test. The questions won’t influence your systems and you’ll pass.
Polygraph is bullshit anyway. Don’t feel bad. I have the same degree. I sell seafood :).
