Understanding the "I QUUUIT!" Moment πββοΈπ¨
You might be curious why someone might emphatically declare, "I QUUUIT!" Let’s break down the scenario to uncover the motivations behind such a bold statement. Imagine working at a job where you feel underappreciated, underpaid, and mistreated. This was the reality for the individual in this story, who asked for a justified pay raise only to be met with hostility.
The Request for a Pay Bump πΈβ
Our story’s protagonist approached their management about a month ago with a detailed case for a pay increase. It wasn’t just a whimsically thrown-out figure; it was a well-thought-out request grounded in their performance and contributions. However, instead of receiving acknowledgment and support, something quite different happened.
Bullying and Demotion by Management π€β¬
Rather than evaluating the request fairly, the management chose to bully the employee into submission. Words like "entitled" were thrown around, and there was even an implied or actual demotion. This response wasn’t just a rejectionβit was an attack on the employee’s worth and their contributions to the company.
The Decision to Quit βοΈβοΈ
Feeling undervalued and demoralized is a tough spot, but it led to a powerful decision: to quit. Empowered by the realization that they deserved better, the employee put in their 2 weeks’ notice. Not only that but secured a new job offer that was $12k higher than what they initially requested from their former employer.
The Joy of Emancipation ππ
Leaving a toxic work environment can feel like a breath of fresh air. Our protagonist shared how wonderful it felt to be "free." This sentiment is common among those who break free from negative situations. They now have not only financial recognition but also an environment that values and supports them.
Lessons Learnt π€π
For employees:
- Know Your Worth: If your current job doesn’t appreciate you, there are others out there that will.
- Don’t Accept Bullying: An employer’s responsibility is to foster a supportive environment, not a hostile one.
- Greater Opportunities Await: A toxic workplace is not the end-all. Better jobs that value your skills exist.
For employers:
- Value Your Employees: Recognize and reward contributions fairly.
- Foster a Positive Work Environment: Bullying and demotion create a toxic atmosphere that leads top talent to leave.
- Be Competitive: Understand market rates and be ready to match or exceed them to retain your best employees.
Moving Forward ππ
Declaring "I QUUUIT!" can be the start of a brighter future. Always aim for workplaces that respect and value you. And employers, remember, a happy and valued team is the secret to success.
Keep in kind that two weeks is a courtesy and if theyβre nasty, just leave. And congratulations!
Fuck around and find out.
Congratulations! May your current bosses be condemned to a hell of long lines at the supermarket with slow cashiersβ¦ and self checkout thatβs even worse.
Good job! Congrats!
Two week notice, no no no! If you can afford not getting paid for two weeks take the two week vacation.
Congrats. Glad it worked out for you. Youβre got 2 weeks to potentially make it a better place for the remaining workers to work and harder for the disrespectful management to manage
Start by telling everyone your pay rate and what youβre moving to.
Tell them that theyβre likely going to be picking up your slack but with no compensation
Give it long enough and management will just observe the extra profit and keep the numbers down.
Congratulations!
2 years ago I left a job where I was getting 45k to go to a job where I started at 70k. The reason I started looking? They gave me a 2% raise in a year that had 6% or more inflation. What did my boss say when I raised the fact that the raise was way less than inflation? “Well times are hard all around”
I told her that I understood the companies position, and started looking for a new job, and a few months later they were all shocked Pikachu when I turned in my 2 weeks notice. Last I heard they had hired 2 people to replace me.
Good for you. They don’t deserve pr appreciate you. Whay was their reaction when you gave your 2 weeks?
Great news.
I always wanted to see what the aftermath of me quitting would be like. I just want to watch the place fall apart, really.
I used to work at a union shop and I had some MS office skills. I created some templates about 8 years ago that are still in use today. They can have that. Iβm more curious to know if the found the passwords i placed on several critical folders.
What joke? This is what everyone on this sub should be doing.
Know what youβre worth, demand it, stand up for yourselves.
Whatβs with the 2 week notice crap? From me you get a today notice! You donβt owe them shit. They will fire you had have you off site in 10 minutes!
The last time I asked a boss for a raise, he became offended, decided I “needed to look elsewhere etc etc”. I took another offer for substantially more, which I said I would do if he couldn’t make an effort to meet the other offer. A day before my two weeks notice was up he says “Oh hey I got you that money” like he is my best buddy. Lolz, no he was NOT.
This is simple, a job is an “exchange of services and goods”. That is it. If they are “in business to make money not spend money” funnily enough, so am I. You want loyalty, you can now pay for it. They got it for being treated decently prior but screw the “thems” now.
I would not be working those two weeks.
Theyβre always surprised when you give notice.
βIβm going to be an AH. Wait, youβre leaving? Why?β
I had a coworker who caused me so much trouble that I gave my 2 weeks notice. First day, she decided that she had 2 weeks to make my life hell. I told her that the 2 weeks was just a courtesy and that I could just leave. She said that I couldn’t do that “by law” (stupid b*tch). I just said “watch me”, got all my stuff, told the manager what was going on and left. And my new employer told me I could start early if I wanted to.
Why are people still thinking that they should go ask for a raise? If you want more than a 1.5-3% “COLA” raise, you must find a new job and get your raise that way.
I don’t understand these employers. You have a good employee, who shows up, does a good job, etc asking for a raise. So rather than giving a few more dollars, they would now rather spend all the time and money to interview, email back and forth, schedule, review, etc to hire someone new whom they now have to train into the new role which will take months. And most likely, the new person is going to be coming in higher at what you were being paid there. Makes no sense to me.
And, it’s funny how businesses pretend to care about cost and efficiency. But, what is more costly and inefficient than not being able to retain good employees and spending a lot of time, effort, etc into constant hiring?
Something Similar happends to me
I asked for a raise, the BOSS agreed
Two month later was still waiting for a raise.
I walked out
Don’t give them 2 more weeks!
I (S)QUUUI(R)T!
Nice, a happy ending. Why give 2 weeks notice though?
Why give thevjerks notice. Unless you’re under a contract or outside the US, the right to work law works both ways.
Nice, congrats.
The two weeks after you give your notice is the best two weeks at that job because you just donβt gaf anymore. Itβs great!!!
Savor it OP. Be as irreverent as possible, say ALL the things youβve had the better manners and judgment not to say.
And congrats on your new job. Go own it! Go on with your bad self!!!
This internet stranger is positively giddy and is rooting for you!!!
