Hey everyone! 😊 I wanted to share a little story about my recent job interview experience and get your thoughts on it.
I interviewed for a position a few months back, and honestly, I felt it went really well. The hiring managers were engaged, exchanging glances while I spoke – a good sign, right? They mentioned they’d fill the position quickly and promised I’d hear back regardless of the outcome. However, about a month later, I received an email saying they wouldn’t be filling the job after all. It seems like they didn’t choose someone else; instead, the decision was made to hold off on hiring.
Fast forward to now: the same job has been reposted just a week ago! 🤔 Shouldn’t they reach out to me if they liked my profile? I mean, with internal job postings, you’d think they’d want to give me a chance to interview again. If I was on their radar, wouldn’t they want to consider me first?
Here’s what I’m grappling with:
- Uncertainty: It’s tough not knowing why they didn’t hire anyone or why the job was reposted.
- Competitive landscape: With internal positions, there’s a chance there are established candidates they might consider first.
- Changing dynamics: Since my interview, I’ve received a promotion, which I think might help my case this time around!
I’m planning to apply again, but I can’t help but wonder—if the hiring manager genuinely liked me, shouldn’t they have reached out? 🤷♂️ This raises other questions too: Do hiring managers typically reach out to candidates they favor in such situations? Or are there often factors we might not see affecting their decisions?
🔍 I’d love to hear from you all: Have you ever faced a similar situation? What’s your take on why this happens, and do you have any tips on maximizing my chances if I decide to apply again? Let’s chat! 💬
Every answer here is going to start with ‘It depends…’, because it really does. Maybe they liked you, but the higher ups decided there is no budget for a new position right now. Maybe the glances back and forth were trying to figure out how you even worked there in the first place. Maybe they want to reach back out to, but HR didn’t keep any records of interviewing, and they don’t know how.
Tons of variables, you’ll only get opinions from this, and you would know your own company best.
Generally you need to apply before being interviewed. I’d be surprised if they allowed an application for a job that closed four months ago.
Apply again and then reach out to the hiring manager if you have their email still. You have nothing to lose really.
After 4 months, you’re OK to reapply.
Just apply again. Don’t wait for them to reach out. It shows initiative.
