TF is with all these part-time jobs asking for 5 days a week?
Are you tired of coming across part-time job listings that demand a full-time commitment? It seems like a growing trend for companies to offer part-time positions, yet require employees to be present five days a week, just like a full-time job. This can be frustrating and confusing for anyone looking to strike a balance between work and personal life. Why are these employers asking for a five-day commitment for a part-time position?
The Problem:
They’re usually 20 hours, part-time…but Monday to Friday? Be at work 5 days a week as if you’re working full-time? What’s with that? Does anyone actually apply to this garbage?
The Solutions:
- Communicate Your Needs: When applying for a job, don’t hesitate to express your preference for a flexible work schedule. Let the employer know your availability and what days/hours would work best for you.
- Look for Remote Opportunities: Consider searching for remote or work-from-home opportunities where you can have more control over your schedule without compromising on the hours worked.
- Set Boundaries: If you do end up taking a part-time job that requires five days a week, make sure to set boundaries and prioritize your personal life. Don’t let work take over your entire week.
- Seek Alternative Options: Don’t settle for a job that doesn’t align with your values or lifestyle. Keep searching for positions that offer the flexibility and work-life balance you desire.
Remember, it’s essential to prioritize your well-being and mental health when it comes to your job search. Don’t be afraid to speak up and advocate for yourself when faced with unreasonable job requirements. You deserve a job that respects your time and allows you to thrive both professionally and personally.
Some people that has a child may want these jobs when the child is in school
My fave is when they want you to travel 30+ minutes to various other sites for a part time gig. For example they have 2 doctors office locations and you may have to go to one on Tuesday and the other another day. Like what? I’ve even seen one for 50 miles away from the main office
People take them out of desperation just to have something, and keep applying until they get something better. These entitled places are a revolving door of constantly new employees that keep leaving.
They just want the freedom to schedule you whenever they want, they won’t actually give you monday – friday. They expect people to just stay available every day and survive off of 15 – 20 hours a week.
Worked great for me when I was in college 🤷🏼♀️ could work during the day and take classes at night or the other way around
My local small-town librrary does this. I would have loved to work there a couple 8-hour days each week, but I told them that I wouldn’t consider five 3-hour shifts. They have a revolving door of people, I’ve noticed, except for the few old-timers who’ve got decent salaries and seniority.
I ran into a job like this. It was full-time, when I applied, but before they hired me, they pushed back to part-time, 20 hours a week.
Once I started, they scheduled meetings throughout each day! Morning, mid-day, late-day meetings. I was hoping to make the schedule 2-3 days a week, but before I could make this suggestion, I started receiving complaints I was not on Slack answering questions in a timely manner.
Five days in, they canned my ass.
Part time for me is 2-3 days per week. Would never work 5 days a week for part time pay and no benefits.
I’ve done that when the part time job was a second job.
Hopefully Bernie Sander’s proposed 4 day work week comes to fruition
This is called the gig economy and it is sponsored by your friends at the two party system, Citizens United (name is ironic) and crony, corrupt Capitalism.
