#Putin #NATO #Ukraine #US #Attack #Border
Have you ever wondered why Putin always seems to bring up NATO as an excuse to attack Ukraine, even though the US is just a stone’s throw away from their eastern border? Let’s dig into this complex issue and try to unravel the motivations behind Putin’s actions.
## Understanding the Russia-Ukraine Conflict
Before we dive into Putin’s motivations for using the NATO excuse, let’s first understand the root of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The relationship between these two countries has been tense for years, with issues such as Crimea, separatist movements, and territorial disputes fueling the fire.
– **Crimea Annexation:** In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine, sparking international outrage and sanctions against Russia.
– **Separatist Movements:** Pro-Russian separatist movements in eastern Ukraine have further strained relations between the two countries.
– **Territorial Disputes:** Both Russia and Ukraine lay claim to certain territories, leading to border tensions and conflicts.
## The Role of NATO
NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, is a military alliance of European and North American countries that was formed in the aftermath of World War II to counter the threat of Soviet expansion. Today, NATO serves as a collective defense organization, with member countries pledging to come to each other’s aid in case of an attack.
– **Expansion of NATO:** Since the end of the Cold War, NATO has expanded its membership to include former Soviet bloc countries, much to the chagrin of Russia.
– **Perceived Threat:** Putin views NATO as a threat to Russian interests, especially when it comes to countries like Ukraine seeking to join the alliance.
## Putin’s Strategic Calculations
So why does Putin always bring up NATO as an excuse to attack Ukraine? Here are some possible reasons behind his actions:
1. **Domestic Politics:** Putin’s popularity at home often hinges on his strongman image and stance against perceived Western aggression. Using NATO as a scapegoat helps him rally support from the Russian people.
2. **Geopolitical Goals:** Putin sees Ukraine as a crucial buffer zone between Russia and NATO. By keeping Ukraine out of NATO, he maintains a strategic advantage in the region.
3. **Historical Ties:** Russia has historical ties to Ukraine, and Putin sees it as part of Russia’s sphere of influence. Any move towards NATO membership by Ukraine is seen as a direct challenge to Russian interests.
4. **Distracting from Internal Issues:** By focusing on external threats like NATO, Putin can distract from internal problems such as economic woes and political dissent.
## Conclusion
In conclusion, the issue of Putin using NATO as an excuse to attack Ukraine is a complex one. It involves a mix of historical, geopolitical, and domestic factors that all play into Putin’s decision-making process. However, it’s essential to remember that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine goes beyond just NATO, with deep-rooted tensions and rivalries at play.
As the situation continues to evolve, it’s crucial to stay informed and to seek out multiple perspectives on this issue. Only by understanding the intricacies of the Russia-Ukraine conflict can we hope to find a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions in the region.
Because that’s what it is – an excuse. Just like “denazification” or stopping [“Militarized witches”](https://www.vice.com/en/article/dypmpk/russian-state-media-claims-to-discover-militarized-ukrainian-witches) or [combat mosquitoes](https://news.yahoo.com/combat-mosquitoes-dirty-bomb-russian-151700522.html) or some other bullshit
Its not entirely an excuse, putin didnt want nato on ukraine since ukraine has a valuable strategic position to him, zelensky was in talks to join nato near the end of 2021 which caused the first rukus at the borders with the placement of russian tanks, neither party backed out so putin resumed the war
Finland joined and its border is closer to the two major Russian cities than Ukraine’s.
It’s just a bs excuse.
Because attacking over the Bering Strait is just strategically stupid, considering the heart of all governance and industry exist in western Russia closer to Europe (except perhaps Vladivostok). Also, NATO isn’t just the US, you’re forgetting all the European countries in the Alliance, and a lot of them border Russia. That’s why Putin uses the excuse that NATO is going to attack Russia, even though NATO has no intention to do so…
Russian bots appearing in 3….2…..1…………
We are nato
Putin considers Ukraine to be part of Russia. He understands that if Ukraine is in NATO he can’t annex it.
So basically a robber complains about guards in the bank.
Because Russia gets invaded through Ukraine not Alaska
When you stop looking at governments like they are normal people and start realizing they are an organized criminal enterprise, the choices they make are more logical. We live under a system of international anarchy. No one trusts anyone else. Pick your poison on the explanation. The poker game that everyone is cheating at. When you start looking at governments at thugs, the answers are more clear.
The nato excise is basically them complaining at expanding US influence over their own.
They cannot do anything about the Baltics it’s too late. But they don’t want another and especially as large a post soviet country like Ukraine to be under western influence.
Plausible deniability. NATO has been slowly creeping up to Russias borders and the EU is also making a lot of financial deals against Russia so Putin saying that it’s because of NATO expansion is something he can say that’s sounds reasonable to the people not paying attention. In reality he’s just an expansionist leader who wants to have puppet states around him to use as a shield.
Because the useful idiots gobble it up and regurgitate that nonsense for the consumption of even bigger idiots whose votes, they hope, will erode Western support for defending freedom and democracy from Russian fascism and genocide.
Why was US so worried about Cuba aligning with Russia?
Stop asking questions before you get sent to gulag😡
Stupid people believe anything…
Because its nigh impossible. Its just large land few towns, mountains and forests. Not a single strategic place is on that side, it’s gonna take ages for them to come to civilization, and the rest of the country could just prepare. Its basically “lose this war” side.
Remember the Cuba crisis?
because it’s a fake excuse. He’s trying to hide the real one
Eastern Siberia isn’t exactly an important strategic target, unlike western Russia which has cities like St. Petersburg close to Finland.
Just one of his conflcting bullshit excuses
Your question is nonsensical. Putin has never once stated that his intention was to attack NATO.
What point are you even trying to make?
A lot of reasons, context matters. You can check leaked conversation of V. Nulland from 2014 (same woman that went to kiev to tell zelensky to get rid of his war general which he did a week later in january/february), a big factor is the fact that if russia gets attacked, it historically always happened through ukraine so that is a very strategically important area, another huge reason is crimea, their navy hq in sevastopol and a huge amount of russians living in parts of ukraine that russia now occupies. But basically russia wanted neutral ukraine which it still wanted in 2022 and today, but the west doesnt want peace, guess that is russia’s fault as well?
Fact of the matter is nato knew what trying to add ukraine to nato meant for russia, they kept pushing and pushing and now that there is a full scale war they keep pushing (look up who stopped ukrainr from finalizing the peace deal in march 2022, oh wait it was usa and uk), russia’s attack is still russia’s fault and they should be condemned, but nato is the main reason it came to it. Nato after all helped ukraine prepare for war since 2014, they directly messed with ukrainian internal affairs as can be heard on the leaked call of v. Nulland and the recent german leaked calls confirm the same, so when someone says nato isnt at war with russia already or that russia attacked unprovoked its just incredibly outrageous and ignorant.
Speaking about the american russian “borders”, obviously everyone is on high alert, but it is unlikely attack starts there.
How would the US feel if Mexico joined Russia and they armed them like they’ve been doing in Ukraine since 2013?
Because Alaska is too far away from populated Russia where their seat of power is. If the USA theoretically invaded Russia they would do so through Europe, not Alaska.
It’s also just a stupid excuse because no one would want that war if nobody started it
Putin also said the entire Ukrainian leadership were drug dealing actual real life Nazis.
Putin does not care about the truth, and in a way it doesn’t matter. What he says goes – if he can lie and people agree with him (either directly or indirectly by following his orders anyway) then it makes him look even more powerful.
This is very simple, just imagine Canada becoming belligerent and joining China’s military alliance. Would the US just ignore it? Why would Russia have to tolerate growing military presence around all of its borders? Now, Finland and Sweden have always been assumed to be pro-NATO, ever since the USSR and the Cold War era. These threats had already been counted for and sort of accepted. Ukraine wasn’t just another country, it was the last drop after successive expansion of military infrastructure over 5 waves since the USSR disintegration. Russia has been extremely tolerant and patient all this time, pleading to the US and NATO not to threat the strategic stability. Putin directly questioned them in München in 2008, and 2022 followed as a direct outcome of the US-led process. That’s why.
That’s like asking why NATO is needed when US is 2 miles away, or why the cuban missile crises happened.
BECAUSE THATS NOT WHERE MOSCOW IS
Its because of Crimea, Sevastopol is the base of the Russian Black sea fleet, if Ukraine joins or did any agreement with NATO, it could threaten their naval base.
Because no fucker lives in the Russian far east. There is no important infrastructure there. There is no infrastructure there at all. The US and its allies would need to be actual brain dead morons to attack Russia via Chukotka.
Look at Moscows location. The east boindary is extremly far. Also, the usssr used to have a warm water port, then they didn’t now they do. Defending that port is part of the Ukrainian invasion. Also, oil fields.
Putin needs lines that will work on the Russian people, and on non-Western countries.
The line for the Russian people is about how Ukraine isn’t a real country, and that it’s full of Nazis, and that the land occupied by Ukraine is historically Russian.
The line for non-Western countries is that Russia feels threatened by NATO and is acting to defend itself from being the next victim of American imperialism.
The reality is that Ukraine is the world’s largest exporter of grain, and as Europe has been working towards decarbonising its energy production Putin has recognised that one of the few parts of the Russian economy that actually functions has got a limited lifespan ahead, and because Russia is essentially an organised crime syndicate masquerading as a nation state he’s looked for what might replace petrochemicals going forwards, and concluded that the next extractive industry which he can hand out to his oligarch chums is Ukranian grain, same as how the cartels in central America have gone after avocado production.
No strategic objective for NATO near the eastern border. Closes key city is Vladivostok which is still very very far away.
I’ve never really understood this argument. Why does Russia care how close NATO is to their borders?
They have nukes?. The US isn’t going to perform some massive ground invasion are they? Not when Russia could destroy every major city in the US in less than an hour?
Their only issue should be if they decided to keep nukes closer to their border no?
Because he is delusional
They aren’t ready to travel the 55 miles to us. The Alaskan Guard would put up more of a fight than Ukrain.
Because this is a war between the US and Russia, Ukraine is unfortunately just a playground
Why did the US flip out when the Soviets put missiles in *one* nearby nation?
In not pro-Putin by any means, but no nation would be ok with a collective security organization expanding to virtually its whole border.
How would the US react if both Canada and Mexico signed a collective defense pact with Russia, conducted joint training exercises, etc?
The whole issue according to them is the violation of the Minsk Accord. This Accord was founded post WW2 and basically stated the the NATO allied forces would not expand past Germany.. The reasoning they claim is that this Accord has been violated to the point where they are “being surrounded by a hostile military alliance”… Which agree with or not, try to control the narrative or not, is geographically and objectively true.
no one wants to fight in the artic.
cold like that in the winter is a special kind of hell.
NATO has bordered Russia since its inception via Norway. It was never the reason Putin invaded.
He (and many other Russian nationalists) don’t believe Ukraine should even be independent. And Putin has a habit of getting involved in various wars (ex. Georgia, Crimea, Syria etc) every few years whenever his popularity gets shaky. The only difference was that he bit off more than he expected with Ukraine this time.
I don’t think Eastern Russia actually ‘counts’ with the governing elite in Moscow.
.
The bully on the playground doesn’t normally go after the buff kid, they go after the weak one
Ukraine was the cradle of the Russian Empire. Without Kiyv, there is no Moscow, and there is no Russian Empire, and there’s no USSR.
By joining NATO, Ukraine is definitively breaking off from the Russian orbit. This is very disturbing to Putin because he knows that Russia has been invaded through the Steppes numerous times. Having Ukraine as a buffer state increases the security of Russia.
Having Russia’s biggest rival directly on their border is a serious national security threat.
Moreover, Russia loses their influence on Ukraine’s government, except with the threat of all out war that is basically guaranteed to go nuclear.
If Russia regains Ukraine, they will look to take over the other historic invasion routes into Russia. Bye bye, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. A broken NATO is not going to save you. Also, the Balkans will be up for grabs, too. And, in a few decades, Russia might even start making noises over access to the Black Sea, too. Istanbul could be renamed Constantinople, again. Or, maybe even Putingrad.
Because they are cowards, and will only attack those they believe to be weaker.
Distance is irrelevant when you can press a button from anywhere and fire a missile from nearly anywhere else on the planet that can travel to pretty much anywhere else on the planet with enough accuracy to go through a moving car window and only kill those inside.
Most of that is irrelevant, but nukes that can be fired from anywhere to hit anyone have been around for a pretty long time now. The excuse is just that.
Bcz NATO promised to NOT get closer to Russia and broke that promise. Enough games. Finland is NATO too and it’s very close, but it’s not a post USSR country with russian-speaking ppl, so it’s as a different story. 2 miles at East border is not the same as more countries joins NATO against Russia in Europe.
