Yes, it’s generally terrible in the world. And they have a constant stream of news and information in front of them 24/7. Smartphones are poison and the media in general is insane. We’re not supposed to be exposed to so much all of the time.
Did you try *checks note* giving them the means to live?
No one?
I don’t know why either. It’s not like they are inheriting a world heading towards complete environmental and ecological collapse. It’s not like there is pollution and the climate is way out of control worse than originally predicted.
It’s not like they’re in school to graduate into low wage jobs, with ever increasing costs of living. It’s not like the future looks very bleak for them or anything. Lots of student debt with no certainty of job prospects or ability to raise a family or anything.
It’s not like they’re forcefed micro plastics and food with diminishing quality. Nah, not at all.
Actually, these kids are showing resilience even going to school. How bad things are at present. I really don’t know how they do it. Tough young men and women actually.
Something Something corporate and social media’s fault
The fact that they can’t afford anything is scary. Back in the day $20 would last me for a fun night out with my girls (lunch and hookah) 2012 high schoolÂ
The straps broke long ago and the boots are worn down completely.
my wifes PCP reccomended her to go to therapy.. after 5 months my wife begged me to go to therapy so i went.
apparently i have CPTSD, MDD, and ADHD among other things. the therapist cried but idk if its even genuine since its her job.
despite having a decent resume with some really important skills required for past jobs i cant find a decent job.
i was making $38/hr pre pandemic, ever since though ive been making less than half and i just keep getting fucked
they do know why don’t believe the BS
oh, we know why…..gaslighting anyone?
How about there’s no fucking hope for the future? Nah
Can’t be the struggle to afford to live! Stupid millennials and gen z pull yourself up by the bootstraps /s
I cannot believe in the article that they mentioned that the decline of churches may have possibly something to do with mental health being so low.
And then they go back to blaming the smartphones. While there are issues with smartphones it seems they omitted anything to do with the workforce.
At least they mentioned climate change. Total ecological collapse. No natural space is safe anymore.
Everyone is depressed and overworked, and the American dream is dead. Housing is being snapped up like hotcakes by blackrock. And these kids are incredibly insightful to see the political collapse as well.
They probably also see the repeal of child labor laws. The children “yearn for the mines” after all. Cannot blame Gen Z and Gen Alpha for seeing all of this and suffering immensely.
World sucks. People in charge don’t care. Too preoccupied with looting their constituents.
No hope
social contract
Gee, I wonder why?
I don’t know any Gen Z folks that own their own home. Many are saddled with debt they cannot pay. They also face the coming climate crisis.
I am 37, so maybe I die before shit gets really bad. We will see. Most millenials I know are depressed as well. Ditto for my Gen X friends.
The American dream is dead and we’ve inherited a planet that is becoming more unpredictable by the day.
*gestures vaguely at reality*
Maybe the feckin economy might have something to do with it? Just a hunch 🤯
People work to pay rent and bills, with nothing left over for a shred of joy while they wait for the world to inevitably burn around them.
Did anyone ask?
The Great Regression is real and this is the consequence. Â
How oblivious to reality do they need to be to “not know why”? Or are they just being cynical?
Who wrote this article?! We just got through a pandemic we’re still feeling the effects from, two wars, political unrest, shit is expensive as hell, people are overworked with increasing job demands without significant bump in pay – just to name a few.
Because they are more and more powerless in an increasingly chaotic world, maybe?
Maybe late stage capitalism???
They want a simple answer to a complex problem…
I don’t know if I have it in me anymore, making a smart ass comment about an issue caused by capitalism.
Probably the world being on fire
We’re hurling towards the collapse of the ecosystem, the money is consolidating to the top, and own all the politicians.
It’s almost as if they are terrified of their futures and have less hope overall…….I wonder why that could be.
