Hey everyone! Looking for some honest opinions on why I might be feeling stuck in my career 🤔 Here’s a quick rundown of my work history:
– Tech recruitment in an agency (2014-2018)
– Senior recruiter in an incubator (2018-2020)
– First talent hire for seed stage start-up (2020-2021)
– Current role at a seed stage start-up (2021-now)
Despite growing the company from 20 to 170 people across the globe, my title and pay haven’t changed since 2020. Feeling exhausted managing 25+ tech vacancies solo and dealing with various issues. Sound familiar to anyone?
Some key points to consider:
– Lack of support and resources
– Feeling undervalued and overlooked
– Taking on extra responsibilities without proper recognition or compensation
– Burnout from juggling multiple roles
Possible solutions others may consider:
– Have a candid conversation with leadership about your concerns and goals
– Advocate for additional resources and support to manage workload effectively
– Explore professional development opportunities or further education to enhance skill set
Would love to hear your thoughts and any advice you may have for breaking through this career plateau! Let’s share our experiences and support each other in navigating these challenges. 💪🏼 #CareerSupport #ProfessionalDevelopment #CareerAdvice
Stop working for startups. Start working for larger companies, Fortune 500 is a plus.
What are you billing
This is a very frequent problem at your scale of company and it is almost never fixed until a real People leader comes on board. Sometimes that’s Series B, sometimes C. But you aren’t respected from a strategic perspective there and you need someone who is backed by a mandate and can better negotiate headcount budget.
My predecessor at my current company didn’t have that and I saw a number of archived rejected requests for help. They were in your shoes – no one wanted to spend on this because – the job still got done -.
In a way, you’ve done this to yourself wholly by accident. You’ve asked for help but they see they can save the money by letting you burn yourself out. You aren’t going to be able to fix this until you give notice. You will need to hope you are involved with the HR hiring so you can demonstrate how they’ve burned you out and hope that the HR leader cares and doesn’t just dump more money into HR people, where you already are way out of wack headcount wise.
Blunt question…What are you getting paid?
