I’m genuinely not trying to start an argument. I think I saw episodes 4, 5, and 6 when I was a kid but that’s it. From my understanding episodes 1, 2 were a complete train wreck. People didn’t like the third trilogy in 7, 8, and 9. I heard that a couple of the standalone movies were complete shit. If almost everything that comes out is bad, how are there still a huge number of people in love with the franchise? Or is that number dwindling?
### The Dilemma: Why the Hate?
It’s true that the Star Wars franchise has faced its fair share of criticism over the years. From disappointing storylines and underdeveloped characters to questionable plot twists and inconsistent quality, fans and critics alike have not shied away from voicing their discontent.
### The Maginifence of the Galaxy Far, Far Away
Despite the mixed reviews and negative feedback, the Star Wars franchise continues to capture the hearts of millions around the world. So, what is the secret to its enduring popularity?
1. **Legacy**: Star Wars has left an indelible mark on popular culture since its inception in the 1970s. The original trilogy introduced audiences to a fantastical galaxy far, far away, complete with iconic characters, memorable moments, and groundbreaking special effects.
2. **Nostalgia**: For many fans, Star Wars represents a cherished childhood memory or a formative part of their upbringing. The franchise holds a special place in their hearts, evoking feelings of nostalgia and sentimentality.
3. **Community**: The Star Wars fandom is a vibrant and interconnected community that spans generations. Fans bond over their shared love for the franchise, attending conventions, discussing theories, and celebrating the enduring legacy of their favorite galaxy.
### Embracing Imperfections
While it’s easy to focus on the flaws and shortcomings of the Star Wars franchise, it’s essential to remember that no creative endeavor is perfect. Every film, TV show, or book will have its critics and detractors, but it is the passion and dedication of the fans that keep the saga alive.
So, if you find yourself questioning the popularity of Star Wars despite its flaws, remember that at its core, the franchise is a source of joy, inspiration, and unity for millions of fans worldwide. May the Force be with you. 🌌✨
Remember, it’s okay to have your own opinion while respecting the views of others. What matters most is the love and connection that the Star Wars franchise brings to its fans. Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below!
Because nostalgia is a powerful thing, and many people grew up with the franchise and are emotionally attached due to it being a formative part of their youth.
A lot of people feel very attached to the first three movies. It’s quite easy to see those three movies as a stand-alone trilogy and pretend all the rest of the content was never made.
>From my understanding episodes 1,2 were a complete train wreck.
Critically yes, but they were successful financially and large numbers of people still went out and saw them. The prequels, for all their problems still built the star wars fan base. People can still enjoy and be fans of a train wreck of a film.
Remember Disney bought Star Wars from Lucas for a billion. So if anything they have to recoup some of that.
Because the movies are all perfectly fine and lots of people like them.
Sometimes the potential of something is enough to keep people interested despite hating everything around it.
when 1 in 4 products is absolutely fantastic, it keeps you hooked but also makes you angrier when those other 3 products suck.
Loud vocal critics on the internet =/= mainstream consumer opinions.
As someone who wasn’t a huge Star wars fan, I never understood the episode 1-3 hate. I thought they were okay movies.
Because 4, 5 and 6 were awesome.
Because not “everyone” hates on it
A majority love it. But the vocal minority bitch and moan the loudest.
Because people who hate the new stuff need a place to vent and the internet is that place. The ones who like it have no reason to write essays about it because what are they even going to say? Plus, they know getting into arguments with those who don’t like something is pointless
Everyone doesn’t hate it. The people who hate it are just loud about it and and the people who are satisfied are quiet about it. The ‘young anakin’ era was a bit of a mess, measuring by the usual semi-objective standards of good filmmaking, but outside of that little dip in quality, I think Star Wars movies and shows have mostly pleasing their fans pretty consistently, for quite a while.
Because not everyone hates Star Wars. Just everyone in your internet bubble.
For every overly devoted Star Wars fan that hate every which way the franchise goes like they have legit skin in the game, there are 3 ‘casual’ fans like me who are just simply excited to see lightsaber fights and space ships.
To be fair if you ignore the bad bits of the movies you are left with awesome space ships and laser swords, ticks enough boxes for most people.
Because it has existed over such a long period time, 3 generations now have been able to grow up with Star Wars and each of them are molded around what Star wars exists at the time and their own preferences, so there are essentially 3 core audiences who may or may not like the same things
And vocal minority, a lot of people watch and like Star Wars content too – esp if you don’t just go by the movies but shows, games, comics, books, it’s not just a blockbuster trilogy of trilogies but a very diverse and packed multi media franchise
The thing is a lot of people like the prequel trilogy now. I’m guessing people who are young now will fondly remember the sequel trilogy.
There is a tendency to read a few posts on line and assume it is representative more broadly (sort of related to the false consensus fallacy).
The VAST majority of people who have an opinion about Star Wars aren’t participating on line and talking about it. Of those talking about it, one in ten who love it may say something, and 9 in 10 who don’t will say something.
The reality: most people actually love Star Wars.
No hate here for 3 generations my friend.
I am a huge Star Wars fan. I am not happy with everything that has been released…but…I am happy that at least something has been released. I would rather have a mixture of good and mediocre than nothing at all.
Yes, a big part of it is nostalgia. I was around for the originals. It was all a huge part of my childhood. I also do think there are a lot of potentially good stories to tell about this universe.
And Star Wars fans just tend to be extremely opinionated no matter what. Lol. We love a good debate on the subject.
Who is “Everyone”? Because I like all the Star Wars movies and shows. My least favorite is The Phantom Menace but even that has lots of good stuff.
Just because a VERY vocal minority of jerks shouts about it online doesn’t mean “everyone” hates it like they do. Most of those guys have a political agenda and aren’t arguing in good faith, or they can’t let go of their head-canon and dislike it being contradicted by Lucasfilm.
Either way, there are millions more of us who are fans and love Star Wars in all its forms. You just need to come to the forums where we exist and we keep the hateful jackasses out.
Lots of people like Star Wars. Look at Nielsen ratings for The Mandalorian, for instance. There’s just a group of people who have dedicated themselves to hating anything popular who are very loud. They also hate Avatar, the MCU, most popular video games, etc. It would be a mistake to think the represent the general public.
1. The original trilogy was formative and powerful for many people
2. The prequel trilogy was really neat if you were 10 years old when Phantom came out. And they aren’t really as bad as people rant on about. Lots of people actually unironically like them.
3. The sequel trilogy is highly divisive. Half the fan base thinks Force Awakens was the best, the other half things The Last Jedi was the best. Everyone agrees Rise of Skywalker was bad, but one group think it’s because TLJ was so bad that it ruined the whole trilogy, while the other thinks it’s because Disney and JJ Abrams were cowards for trying to retcon everything that happened in TLJ and ruined the movie. Everyone agrees Disney fucked up by trying to have three different directors and no unified vision for a trilogy that was supposed to flow into each other smoothly.
4. The peripheral movies are also divisive, though most people agree Rogue One was good and Solo was bad.
5. The new stuff is also largely divisive and varies hard in quality. The Mandalorian is pretty universally touted as being good. Book of Boba Fett is largely considered pretty bad until it becomes Mandalorian season 2.5. Ahsoka is fully divisive. Kenobi is largely disliked but it has it’s moments. Andor is amazing. I will take no questions or comments.
All in all. Not everyone agrees everything new is bad, and there are enough people who still keep up with everything that Disney is still wanting to make it. And Disney still hasn’t recouped the money it spent on the franchise, so they’re likely not going to give up on it until it does.
Isn’t this just a perfect example of how the Internet can distort people’s perception of what’s actually goes on in real life.
