Hey everyone! 🤔 So, I had an interview today, and honestly, I’m feeling a bit disheartened and confused. Here’s a quick rundown of what happened:
- Previous Rounds: I’ve already gone through two interview rounds with this Managed Service Provider (MSP), and they knew from the start that my experience is focused on on-premise work.
- Technical Round: During the technical portion, they didn’t really dive into anything advanced or outside of my expertise, which honestly left me feeling a little weird.
- Abrupt Ending: Just 14 minutes into what was supposed to be an hour-long interview, they dropped the bomb that they’re specifically looking for someone with MSP experience. And then just like that, they ended the interview! 😳
This totally blindsided me, especially since I had spoken with the manager who seemed okay with my background.
I mean, it’s great that I’m currently employed, but come on! Why even bring someone in for an interview if you have such specific requirements?
Now I’m left wondering if anyone else has encountered a situation like this. 🤷♂️ How did you handle it? What tips do you have for moving on from a frustrating interview experience like this?
I’d love to hear your stories or any advice you can share! Let’s chat! 💬
Two interviews in and they pull this stunt? Sounds like they did you a favor.
Have had similar experiences with MSPs while trying to enter the industry. Not sure if it’s par for the course or just an MSP thing. They’ve gone so far as telling me to wait for an answer of Yes or No after completing technical interviews just to have the owner and interviewer ghost me.
They probably were just going through the motions with you. Had a person in mind but on paper they said they interviewed multiple people and chose the best one.
MSPs are shit anyway mate, they did you a favor.
Interviews are two way streets. You should be evaluating them as well. There are plenty of poorly run places, and poorly run places interview poorly and often disrespectfully. You got lucky and while you should take constructive feedback from interviews well, you also should not take events like this personally.
Having been a hiring manager at an MSP, their hiring practices are often unprofessional and out of sync with what they actually need.
Do not take it personally, but MSPs are usually some of the worst ran businesses. It’s just the game.
I had one job not even give me flexibility on *starting* a very senior job I had received an offer for.
This was after like 5x rounds of interviews and for a company that turned me down for a much less senior role a few years prior. I passed on the offer.
After all of that time wasted, they reposted the job but this time as fully remote.
MSPs are stubborn beggars trying to be choosers. Don’t take it personally.
