#IBInternship #BackgroundCheck #CreditScore #GPA #JuniorYear
Hey there! First of all, I want to say that I am truly sorry to hear about all the hardships you have been through recently. It sounds like you have been dealing with a lot and my heart goes out to you. It takes a lot of courage to reach out for help and advice, so kudos to you for taking that step.
In terms of your concerns about the background check for your IB internship, let’s break it down:
What can you expect from the background check?
– Background checks for internships typically include a review of your criminal record, credit history, and educational background.
– They may also verify your past employment and check for any discrepancies in your application.
Will they see your new credit report and potentially retract your offer?
– It is possible that the company conducting the background check will see your updated credit report, which now shows a lower score due to your gambling issues.
– However, it is important to note that each company has its own policies and criteria for evaluating background checks.
– If your credit score is a concern for the company, they may choose to discuss it with you and give you an opportunity to explain the situation.
– It’s always best to be honest and upfront about any issues that may arise during the background check process.
Will they see your new GPA and possibly rescind your offer?
– Similar to the credit report, the background check may reveal your updated GPA, which has decreased due to the difficulties you faced.
– Again, companies understand that life can throw unexpected challenges our way, and it’s important to communicate openly about any changes in your academic performance.
– If your GPA is a concern for the company, they may ask for an explanation and consider other factors such as your work ethic, skills, and potential to succeed in the role.
How can you navigate this situation and potentially salvage your internship offer?
– First and foremost, continue to work on improving your credit score and GPA. Seek assistance from academic advisors, counselors, and financial experts to help you get back on track.
– Consider reaching out to the HR or recruiting team at the IB firm to discuss your situation. Explain the challenges you have faced and the steps you are taking to overcome them.
– Express your genuine commitment to the internship and your eagerness to contribute positively to the team.
– Provide any supporting documentation or references that can attest to your character, strengths, and potential as an intern.
Remember, everyone makes mistakes and faces setbacks at some point in their lives. What matters most is how you choose to learn and grow from these experiences. Stay focused on your goals, seek support from trusted individuals, and believe in your ability to turn things around.
I wish you all the best in navigating this challenging situation and securing your internship. Keep pushing forward and never underestimate the power of resilience and determination. You’ve got this! 💪🌟
Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions or need further advice. Take care!
First of all, sorry for your loss. I don’t think you destroyed your chances and no one here is in a position to scold you. The only way you fix this is if you get clean and stop gambling. This isn’t broken yet but you’re damn close…what you choose next will likely determine your life path. You don’t have to say why or how things shifted in the past year…all you have to do is qualify it with your loss. Anyone and everyone will cut you some slack…you had a BIG loss…people cope in many different ways. Good luck!
Background checks don’t include gpa, firms can’t ask schools for your GPA because that’s illegal. they would have to ask you about it , so they won’t find out from other sources. The credit report might be something they’ll see, but you can still talk your way out of that for most reasons. your parents passing and having to take care of your siblings seems like a reasonable sense as to why ur credit dropped.
They will check your credit but it won’t affect you if you don’t have bankruptcies or public records for being sued for debt.
The GPA may be a problem as they will likely ask for transcripts. This is absolutely not an end all be all and your ability to still maintain a solid GPA through horrendous personal circumstance is easily explainable. You did the hard part, you got the offer. All of this can be discussed.
You are not an idiot. What you’ve experienced is an incredibly difficult thing to have to go through with all of that pressure and you have persevered through something most will never have to endure.
The background check will probably not turn up anything about your GPA, and if it does, your situation would be more than sufficient as an explanation. As for your credit, it may be shown in the report but as long as you don’t have any bankruptcies or similar things on public record you will be fine.
Ask your uni to repeat the year for extenuating circumstances, now one thing you really need to focus on, you understood that you got a problem, now fix it, that’s what’s gonna get you fucked, not what already happened, but if you keep doing what you’re doing then yes you’re gonna get fucked, do it for your siblings, I’m sure an addict won’t help them get to where they need to be in life, pattern up.
TLDR: you’re not fucked but if you don’t stop you will be, tough love is needed, get your shit together and plead with your uni to re-do the year
I’m so sorry for your loss. Firm dependent but I know a pretty strict bank did not ask their hires for credit check. 3.1 is not too too bad as long as you can explain it (you obviously had a huge distaster happen to you) and you are working to improve it back closer to where it was which is sounds like you are. Just worry about improving mental health and grades try not to let the HR stuff make your mental health worse
You need to stop the gambling, especially when your younger sibling is relying on you. Like I can’t stress this enough. It has nothing to do with your career goals right now.\
2nd of all you are totally fine! You have a complete valid reason . No one will hold it against you. Do not obviously mention the substance abuse and gambling. But if they do ask about the drop in GPA and Credit Score, talk about how you are raising your sibling and needed to take on debt fast.
This is your turning point, you haven’t had your chances at life ruined yet, but this is decision time. You’re smart, make your parents and sibling proud and keep shining like you were before their tragic loss.
You’re self aware so there’s plenty of hope for you yet, just please come back at some point to let us know you didn’t piss away the opportunity of a life time
You’re alright but at the end of the internship, I think you should have a 1 on 1 with your boss & explain everything. You have a valid reason for why you fucked your life up, so I think he would understand & pity you.
