#HelpMeDecide: Should I stick with IT or switch majors? 🤔
Hey guys! 👋 So, I’m currently a junior in college majoring in IT infrastructure, and I’m facing a bit of a dilemma. I’ve always been super passionate about IT and determined to succeed in the field, but after scrolling through Reddit and seeing all the negative comments about it, I can’t help but wonder – should I stay in IT or find a new major?
I’m about to start a part-time job within my school doing some IT work, and I have plans to get some certifications under my belt by the time I graduate. But I’m wondering if there’s something more I should be doing to prepare myself for the future.
Is there anything positive to look forward to in IT? 🌟 What are your thoughts? Drop a comment, take the poll, or shoot me a message – I’d love to hear your perspective! Let’s figure this out together! 💬🔍 #IT #CollegeLife #CareerDecisions #FuturePlans
You will ALWAYS here or see more negative comments then positive no matter what you look at.. happy people are less likely to comment because they are content.. pissed off people want to feel vindicated.
As someone who didn’t do this when he should have.. do what you are PASSIONATE about.. a shit ton of people got into IT for the money and not because they enjoy it.. fuck em..
Plenty of jobs but just competitive. If you are passionate about IT keep at it.
I have been in IT for 30 years. It has taken me to 3 states, I now live in a Southern tech hub working for a global name brand organization. I work in cybersecurity and assist on M&As. I review companies we purchase from a cybersecurity perspective…most of them are small Cloud native organizations from all around the world.
I have worked in the US, Canada, and India. My entire career has been in the Fortune 500 and government organizations – I have worked in the manufacturing, cybersecurity, finance, and government industries.
My education includes a Bachelors and a Masters degrees. I have several certifications in cybersecurity and IT.
To me, my career has been exciting…I have been able to work with brilliant people from all over the world. I have worked with thought leaders in IT who have helped shaped modern life. I make enough money to live a comfortable life. The opportunities it has presented are simply amazing to me.
Everyone’s path is different and I know I have been more blessed than most of my colleagues, but if you stick with it…take calculated risks…work hard…you will succeed in this field or any other you chose.

Don’t listen to the losers. If you want to be happy and successful in life, find older people who are happy and successful in your eyes, and seek their advice and guidance. There will always be self defeating people who will blame everyone but themselves. Avoid them at all costs.
IT is still a good field to go into. It’s just the job market sucks right now. There are a lot of entry level people trying to go into IT but not a lot of entry level jobs. But it’s a good thing that you’re going to get a job at your school, that’s how I started and currently I have a help desk job making 22 an hour and will be making 24 when I get hired. Hopefully, see if you could get hired full-time at your university when you graduate if there’s a chance. Good luck, and work hard!
People go to art for passion, not for money, but it doesn’t mean every artist is broke. Every field has standouts. You can be the one. As long as you meet the right opportunity, your passion will take you where you want.
Cheers
I think people are easy to work with compared to most fields.
I do think the IT gold rush is over, and it takes much more to earn the big $.
I enjoy a low six-figure, remote work, and plenty of downtime. Occasionally, you do have to work midnight for upgrade and be on call.
