Struggling with Technical Recruiting Performance?

We all have had a cold streak at some point. I couldn’t get any sourced candidates to offer in March. 9+ months is a long time, but just keep doing the work – think about and try new ways to innovate and improve your process or messaging.
Some situations are out of your control, but some of the things you mentioned are also communication issues. You can ask candidates about things that can impact clearance eligibility – describe the process of getting a clearance in detail and ask if they would anticipate any issues with any of it. You can ask your hiring managers and HRBP’s about anticipated budget/headcount issues and stay in the loop – that is part of what a trusted partner should know. The pt/ft moonlighting scenario is tougher, but maybe something you can try to flush out in a phone screen (like if you see a consulting gig and a ft job on the resume concurrently), then discuss with your hiring manager prior to even scheduling an interview (I have one of those cooking right now, too).

I get a ton of applicants for my software engineering roles, but maybe only 5% of those people make the cut for a screening (lots of visa-sponsored candidates applying for security cleared roles, or at places that explicitly don’t offer sponsorship), let alone make it through to an interview with the client.
For my manufacturing and mechanical engineering roles, however, the inbound applicants tend to be of a higher quality, but I get significantly fewer of them (particularly because these roles are on site).
Overall, the majority of my successfully placed candidates have come from conducting my own outreach, rather than relying on inbound applicants.

This is not you. This is the economy. Your company CFO needs to understand that the offers are not competitive in the current market. Communicating this information might be uncomfortable. It needs to be done though.

You are underpaid IMO. But do you really want to rock the boat over 3k? Also if there’s no cola or merit increase there might be larger concerns at play

Now I actually feel more confident with a commission only model. I’m not a salaried employee, I don’t have to worry about having a bad quarter or two with a softer job market, etc. you’re a steady biller, just make sure you don’t go nuts on spending on non-essentials and put some rainy day money aside just in case. Sounds like you got a good upgrade that suits your hybrid work schedule too

Left recruiting for EMS, it's been a hell of a ride. I work full time 2 days a week and now have time for hobbies and family. No more out of work emails or 60 hour weeks on 40 hour salaries. The first question you need to ask yourself is do you actually want to manage people? This question is even more important since you’ll still be running a desk. In my experience it’s difficult to be a top producer while managing a team. Perhaps you’re wired differently than I am but I could never put the needs of my team when I managed above my individual goals since I was still expected to run a full desk. It’s certainly doable as lots of people have done it, but it’s tricky.
If you do end up pulling the trigger, hopefully KF has some resources to help you. In my experience there isn’t usually much training for managers. I got a lot of value out of David Brock’s book, “Sales Manager Survival Guide.”
