Did I make the wrong choice by rejecting my ex after his crisis?
Someone having mental health problems does not mean that you have to date them. A relationship is supposed to improve your life, if it drains and hurts you instead you should leave it.

I imagine she is just the coming out of it. My MIL said some crazy stuff sounding 100% lucid when they woke her up from her long term medical sedation. She had no memory of it later on. We knew it wasn’t valid because she had literally never been alone. (Big family on rotation so when she woke up she always had a loved one)
If she is in ICU and just waking up then yes. She is scared. She is hurting. She is on a very long road to recovery. She may not understand that things they do that hurt are for her benefit. Like it being painful to breathe but she needs to breathe on her own

For a long time, there’s been a lot of stigma around mental health issues and getting help for them. Things are starting to get better, but we’ve still got a long way to go. People are more comfortable talking about stuff like depression and anxiety now, but there’s still a huge stigma around more serious conditions like schizophrenia (but that’s another story). So, more access to talk about these issues = more that people are actually going to talk about them, which is a good thing.
However, I’d argue that social media algorithms can make you perceive that people are talking about mental health more than they actually are. For example, if you watch a few TikToks about mental health, you’ll probably see even more of them, making it seem like the conversation is bigger than it might be. Note on social media – I’d argue that there is also an increase in the incidence of mental health issues like depression and anxiety as social media has become more prominent as well, especially among teens.

From what I’ve heard from friends, acquaintances, and patients, rape in prison isn’t anywhere near as common as it is portrayed in movies and TV. It does happen, but typically as a form of punishment for someone who is being extremely disrespectful and had chances in the past to make things right but is just a shitty person or really fucked with the wrong people. It’s not really like the rite of passage or new guy intimidation that fiction media often presents it as.
Consensual sex happens too, from what I’ve heard it’s mostly like blowjobs, different ex-cons have said it’s “not as gay” to get your dick sucked as it is to fuck another man or get fucked by another man. But while not everyone I know who went to prison participated in some form of gay sex, they all agreed that it is hard being away from women (or whoever you’re into) and plenty of inmates still get those urges plus for some they crave the compassion and emotion from a relationship, not just the sex, and there’s obviously only men where men are imprisoned so if you want that kind of affection, you have to get it from other men because being close and alone with women really is not something that ever happens.
On the female side of things, I’ve only known a handful of women who were in prison for more than a couple years and unfortunately all of those women have said that at some point during their sentence they were sexually harassed or assaulted, often by some of the male corrections officers. Those women went to prison in the same state but different prisons so maybe it happened more in that state they were locked up in, but based off what they’ve told me I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s somewhat common throughout the prison system regardless of state. Last I heard from those ladies they were setting up to be part of a class action lawsuit against the prison and the state for the disgusting actions of the guards that assaulted them while they were incarcerated. Seems that type of thing definitely gets overlooked or swept under the rug or not investigated thoroughly unfortunately.
Those anecdotes were from people I knew or treated who were in prison though, which is typically felons who are sentenced to more than a year consecutive, whereas jail is typically for offenders waiting to be transferred to a higher security prison or sentenced to shorter terms usually like a year or less. Not as much consensual or non-consensual sexual relations happen in jail from what I’ve heard, because inmates aren’t in jail for as long a time as those who are in prison, and it’s not hard to believe that the longer you are kept locked up away from the person you love or the opposite sex you’re attracted to, the stronger those feelings grow for a desire for sex and/or some form of emotional relationship and affection, so it kinda makes sense why there are more relationships and sex that happens in prison compared to jail.
I’ve never been to prison and like I said, these are experiences shared with me from friends and patients who have been to prison, and the consensus on sex and inmate+inmate relationships in prison was pretty similar based on what those individuals have said.
It’s also important to say that many inmates who have been raped in prison, either by guard or other inmate, are often too traumatized or ashamed or scared and true rapes often go unreported and those who have been raped don’t like to admit it or talk about it, so it’s hard to know an accurate amount it happens, but the ex-cons who told me about rape in prison was just about what they had heard or witnessed. None of the men I’ve spoken to have never voluntarily admitted to being raped nor confirmed it when asked if they were victim to that while incarcerated. Some of the women I knew would speak on the harassment/assault they went through mostly from the guards, but men are much more guarded and understandably insecure about that type of thing so there’s no way of knowing for sure about that with the amount of unreported assaults that happen in mens’ prisons.
