#InternshipStruggles #InternshipAdvice #JobSearch
Hey there! 😊 It sounds like you’ve been putting in a lot of effort into finding an internship, and it can definitely be frustrating when things don’t seem to be working out. But take a deep breath and don’t worry, I’ve got some advice and tips to help you out!
## The Struggle is Real
It’s completely normal to feel discouraged after sending out so many applications and going through numerous interviews without landing an internship. Many students and recent graduates can relate to your struggle, especially if you’re from a non-target school. But it’s important to remember that it’s not the end of the road just yet.
## Don’t Give Up
First and foremost, it’s essential to stay motivated and not give up. Keep in mind that the job market can be competitive, and it’s not a reflection of your abilities or worth as a candidate. Here are some tips to help you stay positive and proactive in your internship search:
1. **Expand Your Search:** Don’t limit yourself to a specific industry or company. Explore different options and consider internships outside of your initial focus.
2. **Networking:** Utilize your network of friends, family, professors, and alumni. Networking can often lead to hidden opportunities that may not be publicly advertised.
3. **Professional Development:** Use this time to enhance your skills and qualifications. Consider taking online courses, obtaining relevant certifications, or participating in volunteer work to bolster your resume.
4. **Seek Guidance:** Don’t hesitate to reach out to career counselors or professionals in your field for advice and mentorship. They can provide valuable insights and support during your job search.
## Alternative Opportunities
If securing a traditional internship seems challenging, there are alternative opportunities that can still provide valuable experience and skill development. Consider the following options:
– **Freelancing:** Offer your skills and services as a freelancer in areas such as graphic design, writing, marketing, or programming.
– **Part-time Work:** Look for part-time positions or temporary roles within companies that align with your career goals.
– **Entrepreneurship:** If you have a business idea or a passion project, consider starting your own venture and gaining hands-on experience in entrepreneurship.
## Long-term Planning
As you approach your graduation date next year, it’s crucial to have a long-term plan in place. Here are some steps to consider as you navigate your post-graduation journey:
1. **Create a Career Roadmap:** Outline your career goals, short-term and long-term objectives, and the necessary steps to achieve them.
2. **Professional Branding:** Build a strong personal brand through your online presence, portfolio, and networking activities.
3. **Further Education:** Evaluate the option of pursuing higher education, advanced degrees, or specialized certifications to enhance your qualifications.
4. **Job Search Strategies:** Familiarize yourself with effective job search strategies, including utilizing career fairs, online job boards, and professional networking events.
## Stay Positive and Persistent
Remember, the journey to securing an internship or a job can be filled with twists and turns, but it’s important to remain positive and persistent. Stay focused on your goals, continue to build your skills and network, and be open to exploring various opportunities. Keep pushing forward, and eventually, the right opportunity will come your way.
So, to answer your question – no, you’re not fucked! It’s just a matter of perseverance and strategic planning. Best of luck, and keep your chin up! 🌟

Bro keep applying I got mine at the end of March and kept interviewing till May
You’re not fucked. If you have applied to 200 jobs and got 10 interviews then you must evaluate what is going wrong.
Is the formatting in your CV ok?
How are your interview skills?
Do you have any college projects related to finance?
Don’t just apply like crazy, see what you can improve on
You’re on a good track. Keep on applying. And improve your interview skills.
What format are you submitting documents in?
I was applying to jobs earlier this year and got auto rejected almost instantly, but once I switched from .pdf to .dox it stopped.
Just one thing to keep in mind
Why tf am I getting downvoted for saying to apply with a word document for screeners lmao
You’ll be fine. Professors are often a great source for finding internships in college. Career fairs, handshake, LinkedIn are all useful tools as well

I had a similar experience last year with a similar hit rate. My solution was to quite literally apply to ~1000 jobs. Apply to 10-20 jobs a day, be location agnostic.
Try looking into experiential project based internships? You just need experience on your resume, right?
If you just need work experience, you can also just call or send cold emails to RIAs with under $500 m AUM and ask them if they have any work. “I’m an ambitious Junior looking for work experience in the financial industry and I’d be happy to do any back office work that you need done on the cheap etc. etc.”
Sales is frequently a part of the financial industry, so being able to sell yourself so you can get work is probably not a bad skill to practice.
Theyre out there. Keep pushing. Remember, others will accept internships now only to get better offers and then rescind on thier original offer(s) opening up new opportunities so another wave of openings will come.
Make a very good LinkedIn profile and start adding people. This got me 3 interviews passively this month.
Definitely isn’t game over. I’m curious, what types of roles are you applying for?
This happened to me, too. Yes.
10 interviews and no luck is what I would work on. Finance interviews follow a template.
Google MBA finance interview templates. Use those to polish yourself.
You still have time. At lesst till March
I can’t even secure a single interview let alone 10 lol
I graduated non-target w no internships. Im doing fine and make an okay amount. Great WLB too and wfh. Youll be alright !!
Never interned. Finance degree. 10 years post BA. Lead Program manager at Fortune asset Management firm . Took 2 company’s and a shit ton of standing on my own to get noticed. But internships just get you started early
Keep applying! I got mine last year at a F500 company in mid March. Now I’m onto the full time job search which is quite daunting as well lol.
I would reach out to your advisors or get in contact with your university career services/center. I did this when I was in a similar situation as you and started from zero. Tailoring my cover letter to the specific position I want in an internship and removing unnecessary things from my resume (like having old jobs that have nothing to do with my major or career goals, instead replacing it with projects that was related to show I did relevant work in the field).
Good luck!
If you are getting interviews that likely means your resume is good, and something is going wrong in your interviews. Keep it simple, if they send an interview invite they like you on paper, the interview is to check if they like you in person.
