I put this as a reply, but wanted to share to all 🌟
Are you tired of the never-ending rat race and feeling like just a cog in the corporate machine? If so, you’re not alone. Many people, like me, have come to the realization that careers can sometimes be a source of stress and unhappiness rather than fulfillment.
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in climbing the corporate ladder and chasing success. But, at what cost? As I reflected on my own life and priorities, I decided to take a step back and focus on what truly makes me happy.
**Why I Chose Life Over Career**
I’m English living in England. I’m a millennial born in 1983. My wife, born in 1979, earns double my salary. Despite our combined income of £100k, we faced challenges with IVF that led us to accept that we won’t have children. Instead of dwelling on this, we decided to invest in a holiday home in Yorkshire and focus on living a fulfilling life.
**Finding Balance**
While we both still work, we work from home, allowing us more time to pursue our passions. We dedicate our time to rescuing dogs, volunteering, exploring forests, writing, crafting, and reading books. By shifting our focus from career success to personal fulfillment, we’ve discovered a new sense of purpose and joy.
**Life is Short, Enjoy It**
When you prioritize your job over everything else, you end up working to earn money for a company rather than yourself. In the grand scheme of things, career success fades, but the memories you create and experiences you enjoy last a lifetime.
**Take Time to Enjoy the Simple Things**
As I learned to cherish life outside of work, I found joy in the little things – reading a book, relaxing on the grass, dipping my toes in the ocean, connecting with people at the local pub, indulging in a cigar, or playing a fruit machine. Laughing and doing what makes you happy should be the ultimate goal.
In conclusion, it’s essential to remember that work is only a part of life – not the entire essence of it. Strive to strike a balance between your career and personal life, focusing on what truly brings you happiness. So, take a step back, reevaluate your priorities, and remember to enjoy the journey. 🌿

I’m really trying to figure out a way to live more minimally so I can live more life.
I laugh during sex too!
Couldn’t agree more. That’s why I would love to be my own boss and create my own path. I always think about the saying “if you’re not working on your own dreams, you’re working on someone else’s”.
Love this!
Love this but what in the world is a fruit machine
Hey Digit…You’re living one of the best lives! I am in a similar position, though only I work and my wife is free to do as she pleases. We foster cats! I look at my job (which is pretty great right now, but it hasn’t always been that way) as a means to an end. It isn’t fulfilling, but it pays me well enough that I can spend that money (and time) on making a difference in cats’ lives…which I do find fulfilling. Sounds like you’re doing something very similar, and good on you both for doing that! Good post and good luck in life and your adventures! 🙂
I’m glad you’re living your good life but £100k combined plus both WFH is what is allowing you this life.
Most people are not in this position.
” When you focus on a career, you don’t “earn” money for yourself, you get paid to earn money for a company. ”
Not if you start your own business. Not if you own stocks in the company.
Yes Yes Yes 😀
What’s a fruit machine?
