Hey everyone! 👋 Have you been using LinkedIn for your job search? Well, I have some thoughts to share based on my recent experience. PSA: LinkedIn is completely pointless & full of ghost jobs. Here’s why:
I’ve applied to over 700 jobs on LinkedIn in the past month and a half. Guess what? 100% rejection rate or simply being ghosted. 😔
Out of the 5 interviews I’ve had, none of them came from LinkedIn applications. They were all through other networks or direct company websites. 🤷♀️
Using LinkedIn as your sole job search platform might not be the best idea. It feels like the “facebook marketplace” of recruiting – flooded with fake or outdated job postings. 🚫
But fear not! Here’s a possible solution to make your job search more effective:
Instead of solely relying on LinkedIn, try diversifying your job search strategy. Here’s how:
– Utilize job search engines like Indeed, Glassdoor, or SimplyHired
– Network with professionals in your industry on platforms like Meetup or industry-specific forums
– Follow companies you’re interested in on LinkedIn and sign up for their job alerts

It’s not LinkedIn, although it has its own problems. The main issue is the job market itself. We’re consistently losing full-time jobs while adding part-time jobs and there’s an erosion of white collar jobs across the board.
How many “LinkedIn is useless” posts does this sub need?
Buddy – your industry obviously has a bunch of people searching – more than jobs available. This has nothing to do with LinkedIn.
You don’t have one place to aggregate them? Use a spreadsheet. Or one of the many tools online that do this for you.
We get it. It’s tough.
LinkedIn is the largest source of hires for the company I work for, granted we’re small. 700 jobs in 6 weeks, are you applying to anything and everything or being selective and targeted?
Agreed! I’ve applied to 500+ jobs and got nothing. No phone call. No interview. Not even a robotic automated rejection letter.
“I’ve been looking to change jobs” – thats cute of you to tell a sub full of laid off folks your new break-through discovery (insert James Franco ‘1st time?’ meme)
While I agree Linkedin is shit and full of ghost jobs/scams, I still believe it is one place where you can find 70-80% of all open jobs in the market.
Few things that have worked for me-
1. Follow all companies from your target sectors. When searching for jobs I think, this helps
2. Save jobs which are ideal as per you or try clicking show more jobs like this.
3. Try different keywords or no keywords at all. I generally search keywords like manager only(ist very broad) in Canada, filter last 24 hours or past week, then I would go through all job postings. Yes all postings, even if it is 20 pages. You have to be among the first applicants.
4. Add relevant skills to your work ex. I have had employer contact me through a cold message because of some skill. Yes it happened in this shit market. Open up a relevant job, on the bottom there are skills which you should add
Applying to jobs doesn’t mean that you will get contacted. Additionally, not getting contacted for jobs you applied to doesn’t mean the jobs are ghost jobs. Getting rejections doesn’t mean that the jobs you applied to are ghost jobs. Do you really think that companies have time to create ghost jobs and promote them on LinkedIn?
