Are there any women in finance (especially in quant roles) at Citadel/CitSec this summer?
Gender Balance at Citadel/CitSec Internship Program: A Concern?
Impressive Gender Imbalance: Just 5 Female Interns Out of 90?
- Is this gender ratio typical for quant finance internships?
- Seeking advice from fellow females in finance on navigating challenges
- Considering implications of imposter syndrome and male-dominated culture

Should be fine don’t think about this
I’m not in quant but i work ALM (treasury). The financial industry is extremely male dominating, i barely see women in my department. There are only a handful unfortunately
Finance has always been male dominated. If you got the internship they must think you deserve it based on merit and intelligence. Make the most of your experience, don’t think of it as a gender thing, but rather a merit thing.
Hmm my best answer is to try and find women from your college program who have made it and can be super helpful.
Had a quant job before and am a woman. Congrats on your job with those firms! It’s very hard to get into
Can’t say much about it but regarding imposter syndrome, since there’s so few women on the job it means they’re not doing it for the DEI quotas : which means you rock and are definitely not an imposter
1)Yes, normal.
OP, you had a lot of answers and i think they were mostly correct.
I think you are overthinking – you might not feel imposter syndrome at all so why thinking about it or other possible challenges/difficulties before they happen?
My 2 cents: a male (or women) dominated industry is still a human-dominated one. IF there are issues, be straightforward and honest about them. You can still connect and relate to other humans 🙂
Go with the flow, you might be surprise by the vibe – enjoy!
You counted how many women there are, but I dare you to count how many blacks, Hispanics, or any other minority are there. I bet it’s none or maybe 1 person. Finance is dominated by white, Asians and Indians because they have better connections within these jobs. Women have a lot of reach in high finance too but not the case for minorities especially blacks. Your class of intern may have low amount of women but when you look throughout all of high finance and within the firm you will see there are lots of women within every level. If you’re going to make this post be mindful of the others who are rarely represented in these roles because it’s definitely not women who are under represented. Yes, it can be better for women but all I am saying is others have it worse off.
I am often the only woman in the meeting that is not an admin and frankly don’t mind it at all. I feel more isolated sitting with female sales ppl and feel much more myself sitting with nerds talking about numbers and money…
Work in the buy side in a research role, and am a woman. Have phd in Econ, which is basically like a math degree these days. My best advice is to seek out networking events in your city for women in finance. Go to them. Find female mentors. Have been pleasantly surprised by how many wonderful senior women I’ve met that are more than happy to give advice and look out for me.
I work in wealth management. This is more women than I would expect.
About time you learnt that some roles don’t give a fuck about gender. It’s pure performance related and you can be half machine as well as long as you know how to work long hours and make money. If you want the bullshit known as diversity hiring then try accounting.
Not in quant but in a fundamental role at one of those types of shops you mentioned – the great thing about buyside is that its super bottom line focused. If you generate alpha you will do well regardless of gender. So the pipeline might be more male skewed but don’t conflate that with the conditional success rate
It’s not uncommon to be in a room with “more Erics than women”
It is normal. There is some truth that is not political correct – I even think some women are interviewed / hired for diversity reasons at large companies, but I doubt Citadel gives a shit about diversity (which means the ratio is even lower)
Well done for making it and good luck. It will be brutal but rewarding.
