#The Waiting Game: a buyer’s revenge
Are you tired of being stood up by sellers or waiting endlessly for a response? Well, you’re not alone. In the world of online shopping, the waiting game can be frustrating and infuriating. But fear not, there are ways to turn the tables and have a little fun while you’re at it. Let me tell you a story about how I got my revenge on a flaky seller and had a good laugh in the process. 😉
##The Setup
About two years ago, I wanted to buy some stuff for my daughter from an online listing. I agreed with the seller on a price and we set up a meeting for me to pick up the items. But just before the meeting, the seller texted me saying he sold the items to someone else at a higher price. Talk about a bait and switch!
##The Plan
I was pretty ticked off because we had agreed on a deal and I had made arrangements to meet him. So, I came up with a mischievous plan to teach him a lesson. I decided to play the waiting game, but this time, the buyer would have the upper hand. Here’s how it went down:
1. I told the seller I’d actually be willing to pay a higher amount, just to lure him in.
2. We arranged to meet at a subway station to do the deal, but little did he know, I had other plans in mind.
3. Five minutes after the agreed time, I texted him to say I’d be a little late. And the waiting game began.
##The Execution
For over an hour, I kept texting him fake updates about my whereabouts, making him believe I was on my way. In reality, I was just sitting at home, enjoying the show. I could almost picture his frustration and impatience as he waited for me at the subway station. It was a classic case of turnabout is fair play.
##The Twist
Finally, after about 90 minutes of keeping him on the hook, I texted him saying I found the same items cheaper elsewhere and that I wouldn’t be coming after all. The look on his face must have been priceless. Revenge is a dish best served cold, and in this case, it was served with a side of satisfaction.
##The Takeaway
While my little stunt may have been more about getting even than anything else, there are some valuable lessons to be learned from this experience:
– **Patience is a virtue:** In the world of online shopping, it pays to be patient, but it’s also important to know when enough is enough.
– **Communication is key:** Clear and honest communication is essential in any transaction. Don’t leave the other party hanging or you might end up on the receiving end of a revenge plot.
– **Don’t mess with a buyer:** As a buyer, you have the power to walk away from a deal if things don’t go your way. Use that power wisely and don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself.
In the end, the waiting game may have been a bit petty, but it felt good to have the last laugh. So next time you find yourself in a similar situation, remember that you have the power to turn the tables and make the waiting game work in your favor. Thanks for reading and happy shopping! 🛍️
Had something similar happen. Went to pick up an item advertised as free and the guy said “five bucks”. Um, not carrying any cash, so I guess you can sell the “free” item to the next sucker. He backed down. WTH do these people even think?
I think he understood.
I had this tried on me last week! I was there to pick something up, and his roommate came out and told him he’d give him $10.00 more. I told him I was already there, and if he tried this, I’d make it my life’s mission to get him kicked out of all selling sites! Needless to say, I got what I came for.
That’s petty beautiful
I like your idea of playing the player.
Cancelling a sale and reselling higher is a dog move.
Nice work.
Well played sir.
This gave me a good laugh. Thank you for your service
