Solutions for Using Your SS Card for Job Applications

1. Contact Potential Employers: Reach out to the companies you’re interested in working for and inquire about their specific identification requirements. Explain your situation and ask if they would accept your Social Security card as proof of identity.
2. Obtain a School ID: While your middle school ID may not be up to date, consider getting a new student ID from your current school. This can serve as additional proof of your identity and may be accepted by some employers along with your SS card.
3. Bring Additional Documentation: In addition to your Social Security card, bring any other forms of identification you may have, such as a birth certificate or passport. Having multiple forms of ID can increase your chances of meeting the employer’s requirements.
4. Be Confident and Professional: When presenting your SS card as identification, do so with confidence and professionalism. Clearly explain your situation and demonstrate your eagerness to work.

It sounds like you’re asking about documents needed for an I-9 form. That is the form employers are required to use to establish both your identity and eligibility to work in the US. Your social security card IS on the List C items to establish your eligibility to work in the US. Your school records would work since you’re under 18 to establish your identity. Your potential new employer should be able to help you with this information as well.
Please reference the I-9 site for more details on the documents. [https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents)
A school ID needs to be your current school, not one from years ago because if you are no longer in middle school then it is considered expired and you can’t use expired IDs for the I-9.
If the employer doesn’t use Everify, you can use an unexpired ID without a photo.
Review the list of acceptable documents that has been posted and make sure you have what is needed.
When you get hired you have yo complete an I9 form which establishes your identity and your authorization to work in the US. Here is a link to the different documents that can be used for that. https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents
If you have something from list A (like a passport) that is all you need. Otherwise, you need a document fro. list B that proves your identity plus a document from list C that proves your authorization to work.
For list C, your SSN card works. For list B, you can use a school ID card as long as it includes your photograph. If it doesn’t, you can use school records if you are under 18.
