#CSJobMarket #CareerAdvice #PhD #CSNewGrad
Hey, fellow CS enthusiasts! 👋 Need some advice from the seasoned pros out there. So, here’s the deal – I’ve got a BA and an MS in CS, specializing in AI/ML, but the job market in the Northeast US is giving me a hard time. Rejections from PhD programs and struggling to secure internships. 🤯
Consider switching to Electrical Engineering – more opportunities and less competition? 🤔 Or should I stick with CS and focus on beefing up my resume for a serious job? 🎓💼
Here are some questions I have:
– Is pursuing a PhD a good idea at this point?
– What can make me a stronger candidate in the CS/EE field?
– Should I consider additional classes or certifications?
Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences! Let’s brainstorm some solutions together. 💡 #CareerPath #ProfessionalDevelopment
I can’t imagine that the time and money to switch to EE would be worth it. Just keep applying for CS jobs and be willing to relocate. The fastest way to making money is CS, not going back to school again for something related.
If you don’t have a good PhD program coming out of your masters maybe its time to join the workforce and get a computer science job? Get good at leetcode, get a resume together and start reaching out to previous classmates for referrals to the company they work at. The market didn’t seem that bad for me. Just remember never apply through a job portal, always get a referral and you will be able to get a interview. Then just be good at interviewing.
Move to tech hub with better opportunities.
