Ever been recruited for a job only to have it given to someone under-qualified? ๐ค
I was contacted for a design manager position at a pizza restaurant that was expanding. I had the experience and qualifications, but the job went to a family friend of the owner instead. ๐

Letโs fuckin gooooooooo!!!!
Mom and pop shop mentalities are what does most small companies ill.
The moment I am confronted with a M&P, I buy a soft drink but turn down any offer of employment. There is almost never any policy/procedure/controls in place except what the owner says.
Theyโre stupid, you dodged a bullet, and their punishment is that they have to live with the consequences of their stupid decisions. Not your problem. Congrats on the better job! ๐
I’ve worked for several small, family businesses before. Things I’ve learned are: you will be worked to death while others sit and twaddle themselves all day, you will have unreasonably high goals/standards/expectations set for your work that will flip-flop on a whim, you will be an afterthought when they are making even the smallest decisions like lunch schedules, etc. None of these things will apply to anyone that is directly related to the owners or to any of the managers. You will be let go for not meeting their expectations the minute another of their relatives needs a job.
