Have you ever pulled a gun on someone who threatened to kill you while working as a groundskeeper for an apartment complex? How to handle threats of violence on the job like a pro. #selfdefense #workplaceviolence #apartmentsecurity #gunownership #safetytips
Be prepared to invoke your right to not answer questions if law enforcement happens to become involved.
Assuming you’re somewhere in the USA. You forgot to include your location.
First person to call tells the story. Call in what happened.
He uttered a death threat. I’m in Canada and NAL but at least here people get arrested for even just that. I think it might be the same in the US, maybe someone can advise?
Is it an open carry state? Do you have a CCW permit or need one?
If the police show up invoke your right to an attorney before you say anything to them. There is a very famous you tube clip entitled “Don’t talk to the Police” that you should watch. Did anyone see you? Were you recorded by camera? If not, your word against his. He may not contact police but may complain to your employer. If no one says anything I would make it a habit to stay away from this person.
Good bar story, otherwise keep your mouth shut. No DA in Tennessee is going to prosecute you for brandishing if there was a legitimate threat. Wouldn’t tell your employer either unless you think this guy is going to be an ongoing problem and should be evicted.
As other have said, do not talk to the police if questioned. As others have also said, file a police report, while justice isn’t first come first served, it does help the way you are perceived by the cops.
You were within your rights to draw your weapon, as long as you are legally allowed to carry it.
Dude is not going to call the cops. Even if he does, he knows nothing about you.
Remember …. First one to call the police is the victim.
I am a lawyer but not your lawyer nor admitted to the Bar in TN. Contact a criminal attorney ASAP.
Next time pull out your phone and start recording prior to pulling if your able.
Get ahead of this; assuming you have the permit to carry and everything is legal; file a police report because he threatened your life and get an emergency protection order and file for a permanent restraining order. You pulling the gun was in self defense, but let the judge deciding the restraining order know that you don’t want to ever need to use it and you feared for your safety when someone is coming at you telling you they are going to kill you.
If you do carry I recommend getting attorney on retainer or ccwsafe.
did the cops show up? was it on video? any other witnesses? you dont have to talk to them at all..
Call the local police and file a report. It’s likely someone who would behave in this maner would already be on their radar. If they ask any questions beyond what would be reasonable to complete the report, tell them that your attorney will be in touch.
You should have called 911 immediately. Otherwise they could call 911 and you end up in handcuffs.
