So, I had this crazy experience with an IT job offer that turned out to be a total scam! 😱 Here’s the rundown:
– Negotiated salary and role specifics ✔️
– Pushy onboarding process almost to the point of harassment 🚨
– Asked for family member or friend to verify my identity after sending sensitive info 🚩
Needless to say, I dodged a bullet and thankfully didn’t fall for their scam tactics 🙅♂️. But it got me thinking, how can we avoid falling into these traps in the future? 🤔
Possible solutions for avoiding job scams like this one:
– Do thorough research on the company and cross-check their information
– Trust your gut feeling – if something feels off, it probably is
– Never provide sensitive information until you’re absolutely sure about the legitimacy of the offer

You got gotted. Definite credit freeze and monitoring. Never trust Craigslist for anything.
You, sir, most certainly did not dodge this bullet.
The company that I work with asked me to do this the other day inorder to renew my contract.
During Covid LEGITIMATE companies had a secure way of getting your SS# legitimately and safely through a third party. This was not it.
Times are so desperate that people believe that banks are hiring on Craigslist? Red flag right there.
This sounds like the process for the I-9 form, and I’ve done it with all of my recent roles, since 2014. I just did it last week for a position I’m starting Monday and did with the position I’m leaving in January. But you should always follow your gut.
thats typical i-9 stuff but why tf arent they doing it there on site? The having a family member verify your identity ive never seen tho
I’m curious, did you ever actually talk to somebody over Zoom or the phone? Did you ever visit the office?
Were they asking for an i-9 verification on the second paragraph? Because that’s a very normal thing to do.
Of course, prior to covid, you couldn’t just have a family member or friend verify it, you had to go to a post office or UPS and get it notarized but it was such a difficulty during covid companies changed the rules on it and allowed you to verify with a friend or family.
I feel like if they were trying to get your personal information out of you, they would’ve just asked you to submit the forms instead of involving another person.
That sounds like the process for filling out an I-9 form. That’s the government form where you verify you can legally work in the US; there are definitely jobs that will require that.
Not to say this necessarily wasn’t a scam or something, but this is something you’re going to run into especially if you’re looking for remote work.
What bank was this?
Put a credit freeze on your credit report.
Obvious Scam. You sent a picture of your social security #? It sounds like you caught a bullet tbh
Definitely a scam.
