#FiredAfterAMonth #UnfairDismissal #WhatHappened
Hey everyone, I need some advice and insight. So, I got fired from a job that approached me, after just a month of working there. I’m feeling totally blindsided and confused. Any thoughts on what could have gone wrong? Here are some details:
– Was still working on projects and completing onboarding
– Fired at 4:45pm, provided severance package and paid out PTO
– When asked, they said I wasn’t a good fit and decision was final
I’m scratching my head trying to figure out what happened. Any ideas or similar experiences? How do you handle being let go unexpectedly like this? I would love to hear your thoughts and advice. 🤔
Possible solution could be:-
– Reach out to HR for further clarification
– Reflect on any feedback received during your time there
– Network and start looking for new opportunities
Thanks in advance for your help and support!
Because they just didn’t like you for any number of reasons: you were a threat to someone in power, you said something that made someone feel insecure, someone thought their skillset was high and you fractured that illusion.
People will never understand that high school never ends. Cliques and insecurities shouldn’t exist in the professional world, but they do, and they are, if anything, even more rampant. It is a popularity contest, and you better impress the kid with the keys to the kingdom.
Maybe someone wanted to onboard you due to reputation, and that put someone else’s back up. It says more about them than it says about you. Maybe they targeted some competition and fancied removing them from the board. Fuck them.
Sounds like corporate America, sadly they’ll even blame performance or “not a good fit” even if it’s likely budget related. Thats what’s sick. At least they gave you severance and paid PTO, I didn’t even get that (had saved over 3 weeks of PTO too)
If you really screwed something up you probably wouldn’t have gotten severance but who knows, maybe you wore the wrong shirts lol
If a company is poaching you. Require a contract for at least a year of guaranteed employment. Same goes with one which requires moving. If they won’t do it. They aren’t serious enough.
Wow, this is very similar to what happened to me. They lowballed an offer to me, a salary that was similar to what I made right out of college in 1994. I told them that wouldn’t work for me and let them know what I was making and what I would expect to be offered. They said they needed to talk to their team and would get back with me. About 10 mins later they agreed to increase the offer – it was nearly double their original offer. They wanted me to start working right away – I was not happy about this but I agreed. When I got to work on day 1 my director took me into his office and shut the doors and began telling me the issues he deals with for each employee – one guy doesn’t write emails well and doesn’t understand punctuation. One engineer is terrible at math and constantly sends out erroneous dimensional plans. He goes through the entire company with each weakness that I need to correct right away. Huge red flag and only with the company for a couple hours. Things get weirder each day for the next few months. At 90 days I get a call letting me know I’m not a good fit. I agreed they weren’t a good fit for me either. I received a decent little severance package – shocking! That’s about it just a very weird culture and a waste of time for both parties.
Know that it is not your fault. Stay afloat, if you already have some savings, invest the severance somewhere and multiply it. I hope you find a suitable job at a much better place soon.
Sorry this happened to you. Don’t think it’s something you did – senior management and Finance were probably crunching the numbers and doing forecasting in the background and realized they couldn’t actually afford you. File for unemployment.
It could be that it should had been obvious that they could not afford your wages, but only became obvious to your boss after a pay period or two.
Someone’s cousin needed a job.
Was it a small business and was your boss the ceo, or was the Ceos office a few yards away from your cubicle by chance?
If so, small businesses are notorious for arbitrarily firing people for BS reasons you’re better off at a larger company.
You’ll likely never know and you’ll go crazy wondering. Try to focus on the future is all I can say.
Wish I could tell you. I worked somewhere that poached a specific person from another company, and then the same management that hired them proceeded to treat the new hire like garbage. This hire was great to work with and highly skilled. It was very odd.
