“Have you ever been fired without warning? I was let go from my part time job at a tutoring company, where I handled social media and graphic design. The reason? Spelling errors. My manager never mentioned this as a reason for termination. Has this ever happened to you? How did you cope? Any advice on moving forward after being fired unexpectedly? #fired #unexpectedtermination #spellingerrors #workplacestress #advice #movingforward“
Been there similar case. You just need to take it as a learning experience. In this world, especially corporate, you will get a lot of this kind of treatment. You just don’t know what is going on till they hit you with a meeting with HR. What I would do is focus on yourself and how you can find better opportunities. Use what skills you learn and apply those. Companies like these do not deserve great employees (these are the employees of tomorrow).
When one door closes, another door opens. Just move forward.
I was you two weeks ago. Bastards fired me on my day off haha “downsizing”
“They told me my performance was lacking because of my spelling errors I kept making. I know I did this but I always fixed this when someone **painted** it out. This was literally the only reason they gave.”
I really feel for you and I hope you get back on your feet. I would suggest having someone you trust read over your writing before sending an email or submitting work
I was like you Monday and I know how you feel; I’m trying to stay positive but it’s hard and I’m needing to land something very soon. I know it will all work out, but in the thick of it; it’s hard to concentrate and look at the bright side. Hang in there!
Check your labour laws and try to get a free lawyer consultation. Depending on local laws and the formalities of your termination, you might have legal grounds to sue them for compensation. It can be quite lucrative, and it’s immensely satisfying.
>I’m so upset. My manager never stated that this was something that could get me fire and she always looks over my work before I send it. I just feel like she threw me under the bus with no warning. We meet weekly but **never said it was a big deal. Just look out for them.** And I always fixed them as soon as possible.
according to you, your manager did mention the issue with your spelling. It’s not a big deal until it starts to be repetitive. It can be tiring as a manager to constantly correct avoidable mistakes from your subordinates. It shows a lack of care on your part and inability to follow instructions. Both can be used as a reason to fire someone
Are you dyslexic? There might be legal action available due to disability but I’m not a lawyer so don’t take my word for it
Liked my “worked”. Someone “painted” it out. Could get me “fire”. If these are the type of mistakes you were making at work and kept continuing to make even after you were told that your spelling was an issue, it’s no wonder you were fired.
Get grammarly extension, it helped me a lot.
Yeah, I’ve been in a similar situation. I did well on the parts that they said was important, but was kicked to the curb when they said that I wasn’t keeping up with these other metrics… that I never fucking knew about. And… I was a contractor, so that means that I had absolutely zero recourse of any kind.
Like… fucking tell me if something is off? Maybe give a hint?
Fuckwads.
“Someone painted it out”
Quality Control is big in some areas.
Imagine getting fired for a spelling mistake what a joke.
It’s ok to mourn the loss of this job, but let it be your teacher.
It seems that you have spelling and grammar issues when you write in English. I take it might not be your first language.
I recommend paying for a Grammarly subscription and always double check your work.
It’s understandable that you were fired because of this. Making “repetitive spelling mistakes” probably came up as a big red flag. As it shows your lack of attention to detail.
It might not be a big deal at the beginning, but think about this… if you were the employer, would you keep someone you can’t trust to write correctly to do your social media or graphic design?
Learn the lesson, up skill, and do better.
Sounds like this wasn’t the best job for you. Trust me, they shouldn’t have to go behind you to check your work, you should do it yourself; you just made more work for them.
Use it as a learning experience. Even if you correct it when it’s pointed out, they don’t want to have to keep looking over your work and pointing it out.
