#LaidOff #JobLoss #CorporateLayoffs
Hey everyone,
So I received some unexpected news today – I was laid off from my job. 😞 It was definitely a shock, especially since I thought my position and performance would keep me safe for at least another year or two. But I guess when it comes to corporate decisions, anything can happen.
I’ve been reflecting on the situation and I can’t help but wonder why they let go of top performers like me and kept employees who were at the bottom of the performance scale. It just doesn’t make sense, especially when the company is doing well in terms of sales.
I’m sure many of you have also faced similar situations and I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Let’s support each other during these tough times.
Possible Solutions:
– Networking and reaching out to contacts for job opportunities
– Upskilling and learning new skills to remain competitive in the job market
Let’s help each other out and share valuable insights. We’re all in this together. 💪 #SupportEachOther #JobSearch #CareerAdvice
Oh yeah, Microsoft laying off thousands of Americans and then imported double the amount of Indians for fraction of the cost. Redmond (Microsoft HQ) is now called India.
Technically speaking, a layoff is not really supposed to be about job performance, but other criteria, and victims looking for logical reasons are in for disappointment. They came up with a post-layoff budget, they configured who they could keep within that budget, they assessed which projects can be frozen, they designed what the reporting structure will look like, they looked where there was duplication, etc. Politics can come into it, job performance may be a factor, but the net organization will work differently than the prior organization, and they staffed accordingly. And in that post-layoff organization, they deemed they did not have a place for you.
It is not pleasant, but more and more workers in the US have been though it at least once. Try not to second guess things but instead move on emotionally and focus on landing your next role. That’s your new job, and you will need every bit of creativity, dedication, doggedness and energy you can muster finding it. You used all of that to excel in your last role, no? Tap into it for a different purpose. Good luck.
Sorry to hear that. I also gave all my energy to the company, just like you. Been laid off since 2022 ( helpdesk/information tech support) and have reached out to contacts, friends, etc. All say if they hear anything they will let me know. 14+ years of experience and all I can do is look at wall and cry.
Happened to me. Company decided that Costa Ricans and Indians were cheaper to employ than Americans. Jokes on them their stock price is in the toilet.
I was at a similarly small branch. It was about half American, half foreign national.
Everyone laid off was American.
Americans cost more and companies have less leverage over them than H1Bs.
It’s very easy to channel your anger at the H1B recipients, but please save your anger for the executives that abuse this stuff.
I’m sorry that happened to you. Maybe the poor performers cost the company less to hang on to? I’m assuming your salary is higher, if not, I really don’t know.
As someone on her third job in 6 months, focus your mental energy on getting a new job, and be open to taking a gap job in your industry if you need to.
Really try to put this last job behind you. I know it is impossible not to take it personally, and this is really fresh. Your life will go on without these people. Treat yourself well and make the most of the time off. I switched my LinkedIn profile to “open to recruiters” and took a job and then left it for a better job after I was recruited again on LinkedIn. I would recommend doing that 🤷🏻♀️
A shrinking organization is a popularity contest. Value to the company’s operations is not weighted anywhere near as much as you’d think.
My company is doing the same offshore hiring BS. If there’s one thing I learned over the last 10-15 years, our effort and productivity means squat. That is why I refuse to give anything more than the minimum. I walk out of the office everyday and leave it all behind. I no longer try to stand above the crowd. It only brings more work and responsibility with no greater compensation. F them…
