🚫 Quitting My Job Because of Public Humiliation 🚫
It’s no secret that workplace drama can be a major source of stress and anxiety. From office politics to toxic work environments, sometimes it feels like there’s no escape. That’s exactly how I felt when I recently quit my job as a training line cook after less than a month because of a particularly uncomfortable situation that unfolded in a group chat.
Here’s what happened:
The Incident
I was working diligently, trying to learn the ropes and get the hang of things in my new role. However, things took a turn for the worse when my manager publicly called out my mistakes in a group chat. According to her, I had made a couple of errors that would impact the entire group’s Christmas bonus. As someone who was still getting acclimated to the job, this was incredibly distressing and embarrassing.
My Reaction
Naturally, I felt the need to defend myself and clarify the situation. I apologized for the mistakes and explained that I had been following the instructions of another trainer. However, I was met with a dismissive response, leaving me feeling even more frustrated and unheard. I attempted to communicate my need for more structured training and guidance, but instead of a constructive conversation, I found myself being removed from the group chat altogether.
Reflection
In hindsight, I’ve had time to reflect on the situation and question whether I handled it appropriately. Ultimately, I believe that the public nature of the confrontation left me with little choice but to respond in the same forum. While I would have preferred a private conversation, it seemed that my manager was determined to publicly humiliate me.
Lessons Learned
This experience has taught me a lot about the importance of workplace communication and constructive feedback. Moving forward, I hope to find an employer who values open and honest dialogue, as well as a supportive environment for growth and learning.
If you’re facing a similar situation in your workplace, remember that you deserve to be treated with respect and professionalism. Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself and seek out a healthier work environment if necessary.
In conclusion, the decision to quit my job was not made lightly, but I knew that I deserved better. I hope that my story can serve as a reminder that workplace dynamics play a significant role in our overall well-being, and it’s okay to make a change if your current situation is not serving you.

I think you responded appropriately, she can’t NOT train you and then criticize you for not doing things the way she wants.
If you were following the instructions provided by the trainer you were given then her issue is with that trainer, not you.
She is incompetent buffoon, lying to staff, blaming you, and plans to keep Xmas bonus money completely for herself.
Do you know how you are not wrong? By going back and questioning your decisions/actions, even when they are right, so no you are not wrong.
And good luck in finding another better job.
I would have left too A boss who do the train you, but knows how to criticize you. Not worth the stress.
Lol a 3-week old employee has data entry access to cause a whole team to lose their annual holiday bonus? 😂
Yeah just move on. Places always need cooks.
Nek minnit:
“WHY IS IT SO HARD TO FIND GOOD HELP THESE DAYS????????”
🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁
Why does that sound like my last manager? Lmao. I also had to quit because of her. Too toxic.
There’s enough gaslighting from your employer to melt the polar icecaps
Wow, what a fucking bitchy Grinch. No need to help people like that remain where they are at.
Sounds pretty toxic. Glad you ran.
Congratulations on setting youself free of total dumb-fuckery.
My guy reaction was grind through it. No need to work for a narcissistic asshole and subject yourself to ridicule.
Brush yourself off and move on. All the best to you.
“While I’m open to constructive criticism and I welcome critiques of my ability to do my job, doing so in front of other personnel is an unprofessional mngmnt tactic that screams disrespect. Please address this with HR present as I won’t entertain that behavior. Not a good feeling being embarrassed and called out, is it? “

Praise in public, correct in private x1000
She sounds like an awful manager. Doesn’t even know what she’s doing and is unhinged. I think you did a good job responding in the group chat. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
